Hold your horses right there. I'm an experienced knifer and even I don't think so. Unless a CCP Dev comes here to confirm your suspicion about the knife, I would recommend assuming that the double-strike effect is just the animation and not an actual double hit. The attributes of the knife don't seem to point to anything pertaining to a double-strike but rather to one big strike.
Something to consider before running out there in the battlefield with a butter knife. |

I recently noticed that once you initiate the above-mentioned steps the nova knives will not start charging until you start sprinting. I can confirm this.
Also, I noticed you can still retain the charge even after inertia-damp-falling your way to the ground. Just remember to not let go of the R1 button while doing so. |

The attributes of the knife don't seem to point to anything pertaining to a double-strike but rather to one big strike. Something to consider before running out there in the battlefield with a butter knife. Was basing that memory of knife threads. If Maken says that's not how knives work, disregard the double-strike. ETA: Yeah, randoms said they strike twice and I hadn't seen anyone dismiss the idea.
In that case, if you ever find the time to squad with someone, do an experiment.
Find out what is the exact HP value of the suit your partner is wearing and find out the exact damage value of the nova knife you are using. Don't forget to account for stacking penalties if using more than one module that effects the same type and remember to consider your current skill levels.
Make sure that your partner's HP total is just above your knife's damage output. If it's just a single strike as I suspect, then your partner will not die. If your partner dies instantly, then it's possible that there may be a double-strike at work.
Check your results by striking your partner from different angles such as the front, back, and the sides. Try the head if it makes a difference.
Edit: I just realized that friendly fire is still off. Oh well, I can still dream. |

The only way we can settle this once and for all if for a CCP DEV to come into this thread and confirm or dismiss the theory of a double-strike mechanic going on for the nova knives. It's the only thing we need because all we are doing right now is basing our assumptions on simple observations that don't really tell 100% what the mechanics are actually doing code wise.
CCP, please step in to explain. |

CCP, please step in to explain. Why not just test it for yourself?
Because what you see and what is going on in the code are two different things. Besides, until friendly fire is enabled, we won't be able to properly test this whole thing. |
