Honestly, it's pretty much a death sentence. I'm pretty sure I heard about Dust in 2009 at E3. The BETA hasn't come out until 2013..that's around FOUR years. Now you could argue that this game is advanced conceptually and it takes a while to make a game of this caliber, but as of TODAY, all we really have is a sub-30FPS, PS2 graphics, capture and hold shooter. I don't know what they are spending their time on, but the game is technically HORRIFICALLY outdated. What took so much time? The maps are 80% barren wasteland, I don't get it. Everything that's promised in Dust sounds amazing, but right now I don't see this game being anything big now that the PS4 is around the corner. We have Bungie making Destiny which is a similar concept (ever changing FPS world) and they're just going to do it technically better.
We need announcements from the developers on what the future of this game is. Sony doesn't really seem to give two craps about the game, you'd think they would promote the open beta on twitter or something. I don't see coverage on IGN or anything. It's also funny because SOE also makes Planetside 2 which is also similar to Dust. The one thing Dust has is this connectivity with Eve, but as of right now it's just a pipe dream. The closest thing I ever get to connecting with Eve is calling a Precision Strike (which is no different than a air strike in COD) and then I don't even know if it's someone from Eve doing it. I want to hear from CCP, I want to be marketed to. I wanna know why this game is worth the AUR. I'm down to play Dust seriously, but I'll only take it as seriously as CCP does. Launching a beta and going on vacation is not taking it seriously. I know you guys are working hard, but there's bigger and better developers working HARDER. It seems like CCP has every feature at 50-80% completed, but they should just get their CORE aspects to 100% first. The UI is horrific and it's missing blatant features that the likes of Bungie, Treyarch, Guerrilla Games, would never miss in 100 years.
TL;DR PS4 is coming out and it doesn't seem like there's any room or chance of Dust being a massive game with its current technical state. We need to hear from CCP on their future plans, REAL future plans. Not just "one day you'll be able to e-mail someone on EVE!" |

Shadowswipe wrote:It means nothing. When the game gets to a more finished state with all the backend tech working as they want. The will eventually be able to support patched to both PS3 and PS4. The life span of PS3 is more than long enough for DUST to live through the growing pains of PS4 and the market share shift. Do not fear, DUST 514 will be around for a very long time to come.
I don't disagree with that, but my point is is that this game runs off of micro transactions. We need some concrete statements from the developers, no more soontm. Every post says "this game could be great" "This game has the potential" but the truth is is that as of right now it's nothing. There's honestly no time to sit around and be patient, CCP has to stop selling pipe dreams. I wanna see some content. The people who played in the closed beta said that this beta isn't even much different. In the podcast they said they want to bump the player count to 24vs24...and I'm thinking if this game could even handle that. 2v2 shootouts generally end in framerate drops, and not a lot of people are really calling in vehicles in public matches as of right now, so I can only imagine the chaos.
Everyone wants to say "it's a beta" well then I'm never going to put a dime into this game because I shouldn't have to pay for a "beta." But I have put money into free to play games that I feel were worth it.
Also, you're saying this game could look better, this game could be on PS4 eventually...and yea that's true if this was the only game ever going to be made, but there's other shooters coming out and people are going to jump ship eventually. |
