Chanced the topic from "Remove shields from everything" to "K.A.R module"
Optional module to chance the shields input, from "energy" protection to full "armor" protection.
"Kinetic armor reinforcement layers" are not an energy base equipment ( Shields), but an integrated part of the armor system. Design to absorb the kinetic force of ballistic projectiles, for a limited amount of time, before they collapse. Once they collapse, the suit armor integrity drops almost instantly, leaving the dropsuit with only the suit "integrity" as protection.
Of course, this means that the "Kinetic armor reinforcement layers" do not recharge like a shield will do. Instead multiple layers needs to be added to dropsuit, to increase the durability of the armor.
Also added comment form Hunter Junko ;

Some Lore to start: EVE wrote:Shields are, instead, absorptive energy fields. They "collect" energy directed at them above a certain threshold; if they simply collected all energy, a shielded ship would be unable to see out and would appear as a "hole" in the background of space. They have an upper limit to how much energy they can store at once. Explosions are the least-effective method of dealing with shields because they are naturally ineffective against materials that do not heat up or suffer from kinetic effects and suffer the worst of all worlds. Similarly, pure kinetic and thermal energies suffer minor degradations because both are wasting some of their power on things that do not affect the structure of the shield. Pure EM radiation on the other hand is crippling, as it interacts directly with the shield and will all be absorbed. Some wormhole environments offer further demonstration of this phenomenon, crippling shields with intense amounts of hard radiation. K.A.R. For environments when shield strength would be weaker due to outside influences such as storm and plasma-based planets, a viable replacement for shields under those circumstances would be Kinetic armor reinforcement. by completely replacing the shielding modules, Kinetic armor reinforcement( K.A.R.) re-routes drop-suit power towards a module designed to temporarily support, and on higher levels reinforce armor plating by diverting excess energy away from the user. |

The hull / suit integrity is base in:
- Total mass.
- Materials use in the construction. |

You know what... after reading this, i think you right. K.A.R could be added as an "Optional" first layer of protection. |

Remember that is an "Optional" module, you can keep your energy shields, if you think that is better.
But don't you think that will be cool to have an "Option" to chance you shield input, from "energy" to "kinetic" protection ? I think it will add lots of interesting tactical options. |
