PS2 was their last great console For the 25th time Dust 514 is exclusive to the Playstation platform. It's not coming out for PC !

Look it isn't just Sony. It's Microsoft too. Social gaming... it's... everywhere! Gaming is dying!
And it will be re-born. And continue to evolve.
I haven't logged in to Facebook in months. But it will be fun to upload game footage right out of the box. I almost bought a Haupage just to record Dark Souls PvP once upon a time. Now I can do that with Dark Souls 2 without having to buy a computer.
And imagine the Psy Ops possibilities for this game... EVE online IS social gaming. We are wandering deeper and deeper into that universe every week. Though you might not realixe it until the next update. Aren't you all happy to be well ahead of the curve in beta testing DUST 514? You are already in the world of social gaming.

i'm sorry, but i grew up on the PS2 and N64, only thing that mattered was game content and updates to console power, i don't need something that is designed for social ****, if anything detracts from core gaming, it doesn't belong in a console.

Some studios are having hollywood level funding and putting out crap games while joe smoe in his garage makes a best seller. This is why social gaming is the new part of the eveolution.
Richard Garriot may be an idiot saying consoles are dead saying the smart phone will take over. However he isnt an idiot for saying why, social gaming is going to slay anti-social gaming.
i see were you're coming from, and i get it, more people playing=more money, the companies can make more stuff.
but console makers shouldn't make it the primary goal, i'm not the only "hard-core" gamer out there, and since video games were created, the focus was on two things, story, and improving the capabilities of the console. the new PS4 and whateve microsoft comes out with should stay true to that. the PS4 should have the same capabilities as todays computers, those graphics might have looked nice, but there's better out there.
that's one core tenant gone, and you can't make better games withought a better platform, otherwise we would all still have N64's and PS2's. |

Well, yeah. when you look at it like that console gaming is dead. Hell, I usually play games in order to avoid people. I really do like the old school approach of losing yourself in a complete world for hours on end. With no one else to bother you. Buying a headset to play Dust was a big step for me. I was like, "Crap, now I have to talk to people?" But multiplayer is fun too. And console gaming has always social. What about playing Street FIghter with a few friends, nothing more social than "I play winner!" Now it is just that the robots are in control and the whole thing is mediated through so many layers of technology and algorithms that designers have to invent entirely new networks and approaches to try to recapture some of the fun of just messing around on an old school gaming system with some of your friends. If I can't turn some or most of that crap off then the PS 4 will not be for me. Quote:But I would not want to tell anyone else that was really into that stuff that they couldn't have i t.
like you said, i want to turn it off, those people should be able to have it, but it should be optional.
i grew up on smash brows, mario cart, ect. i LOVED playing against my cousins(and kicking the **** out of them with sniper green turtle shells) but i also played DOOM, the old medal of honor games, and pokemon on the gameboy.
i don't hate social gaming, hell, sometimes it's fun, but it should be optional, not this omni-present thing that takes away from my single player games.
imagine fallout or mass effect with that constantly there, interupting this amazingly immersive game. would have sucked |

merciful amarrian empress gaming is ruined forever
Unless they require me to log into my facebooks and share my violent video game habits with my 80 year old grandma before I am allowed to play a multiplayer game with my real name replacing my screen name, this is at worst slightly annoying Seriously, I don't see the problem here at all. Moreover, this "Share" button will cause a great relief among people who regularly upload or want to upload videos of Dust and other games. I just can't understand what is so frustrating for the OP here, since we are most certainly not forced to share our recordings.
ah, but with social gaming comes micro transactions were they dont belong(dead space 3 anyone?) adds by third parties, tracking of my information withought consent. look at the social networks, i don't want that **** invading my console.
and have you forgotten the diablo 3 fiasco, ALLWAYS have to have an internet connection to play? none of that appeals to me, i play video games to relax, not to make a mega corporation more money.
i want a choice. |

I hope they have the option to turn online off, I hear the new X-box will only work with online... can't remember where, but damn that would suck. And if some MOFO interrupts me while I'm beasting it in Fallout, then that foo has got to go.
same here, i have heard rummors of adds comming into games, no thank you.
and i too have heard the rumor about the Xbox, along with the having too allways buy the game new or unable to play thing.
the pursuit of profit should never hurt the consumer, or we can simply walk away. |

My fat PS3 plays all my PS2 games except (and I'm super perturbed about this) Tribes: Aerial Assault because its one of those obscure purple back disks. A lot of those titles are also being ported to PSN or being re-released as HD collections, FYI. As the industry progressed, gaming has become more and more focused on online communities and social applications. Little Big Planet, for example, would be nothing but a colorful 2.5D platformer without its massive community. Call of Duty wouldn't be such a popular series if it weren't for its online gaming which, guess what, gives the game a social layer. I'm not totally certain, but if I had to guess I'd say Dust 514 is a PSN exclusive so that CCP could draw a different audience into New Eden without completely overloading us non-Eve players with an interface that literally is impossible to navigate with a DS3. For not its just slightly cumbersome, no huge gripes excluding the mail interface and the functions assigned to the D-Pad which could be put to better use in my opinion. What I'm getting at here is that bragging rights or stats wouldn't mean jack if we didn't have a social layer to the game. Some people happen to enjoy the social aspects of different games. I don't care what gaming platforms are in question. Be it cellphones and handhelds, home consoles, and even PCs, social gaming is here to stay. Quote: I will, however, start complaining when I have to use a facebook account to log into a game . That'll make me lose faith in the market as a whole. I'm sure saying that will cause someone to fetch a link of exactly what I fear. Lol
they DID state a partnership with facebook. part of the reason i'm not happy with sony, nothing good can come of this |
