The "Dead Zone" in the mouse's aiming is very bad. I hope you know what i mean by dead zone, its kind of hard to explain.
I saw a post earlier saying to make the mouse and keyboard less powerful, its totally bs. The reason people shell out the money for a good keyboard and mouse is to have an advantage. Why would you take that away from them?
Maybe we should just give everyone exactly the same skill points and unlock all weapons that way nobody has an advatange (sarcasm)
Seriously though i bought a new M/K and there is no "major advantage" or even a slight advantage like there SHOULD be one. You can turn around quicker with a controller, The sensitivity needs to be tweaked (x sensitivity, y sensitivity......maybe because aiming up is alot harder and feels slower than aiming side to side) and the responsiveness while aiming long range is really bad. There are spots where the mouse skips over.....most the time that spot is where the enemy is and the speed of the mouse is not able to catch up with an enemy running especially while aiming down the sights.
Please CCP work on making the mouse more like people expect it to be, like playing Counter strike on the pc
I challenge the devs to play counterstrike or mw3, or any FPS on the pc then play dust 514 with m/k. It should help |

What? I played with a mouse and Keyboard for a few games last night, and there was definitely an improvement over playing with Controller. My aiming was dead center and my turning speed was significantly increased. I think you just need to adjust your in game sensitivity, or buy a better mouse and keyboard.
Besides, if you think keyboard and mouse is inferior to controller, why don't you stick to controller then? |

Plus i have 4 DPI settings on the mouse and even the highest one i have to pick up the mouse 3 x's to turn around |

I have A $70 3500 DPI Deathadder that I bought almost 3 years ago, and I works just fine for me. Then again, i have been away from PC shooters these last few years and I might've forgoten how responsive they actually should be.
If you have your in game sensitivity on highest which is 0, then I don't know how else I can help you, sorry. |

i love the new angle of pay to win aspect OP is bringing up.
having to shell out for a new KB/M just to have a chance against them is ridiculous. |

So you want the KB/M kombo to grant you an advantage since you bought it for money?
There is just so much fail here I dunno how to respond. I'll try:
- You are for a "pay to win" formula which makes you an A-hole in itself.
- Getting a slight advantage through getting equipment faster and indeed the skillpoint boosters are not the same as having a mechanical advantage all the time. Its too much, its already too good IMO.
- You bought the damn mouse, you didn't support the game as people do with Aurum, the mouse can be used for other stuff than playing Dust, what makes you think you deserve an advantade?
- Why should a KB/M setup be better to use than a DS3 controller on a freaking console? If it were up to me they'd just remove the KB/M as an option. This is meant as a console game to be "merged" with a PC game, if the KB/M combo is better than the DS3 they should simply have made the game for PCs in the first place. IMO the only reason for having KB/M as an alternative is to cater to all the Eve players that can't use or rather can't be bothered to learn how to handle a controller properly.
- So many KB/M players have told me how OP certain kombinations are, they say its borderlining cheating. This goes for sniping, tanks and the fatsuit Ar combo.
- Obviously you're doing something wrong.

Dude, the whole point is to NOT have a perfect KBM feeling like you get on PC to keep the balance between controllers and KBM users...... KBM is fine. All it needs is to be able to customize the layout.

You know, if you take a purely console player and give them a KB/M to play Quake with, no doubt they're going to suck cos they're not used to it.
Likewise, take a PC player whose fingers naturally fall on WASD and shove a controller in their hands, and they'll be running around like their character is drunk in-game.
CCP have made the game accessible to both a predominately PC crowd who want to enjoy the FPS version of their universe, as well as a console based crowd who love their shooters. To give an advantage to either crowd based on how much real world money they spend on gear, on a future F2P game, is ridiculous and elitist.
I've seen controller wielding members of my corp destroy the other team easily - at the same time I've had really awesome runs using my KB/M. If you think your setup sucks, tweak your settings, try with and without mouse smoothing, and practice more like I've had to (and I'm sure countless other people, controller or KB/M, have had to).
If you think there's some real, legitimate, problems, double check your set up against the supported KB/M list https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=32453&find=unread - if your equipment is listed in the problematic or unplayable, well then THAR'S YER PRABLEM. |

I copy pasted this message from a KB/M user:
#57 Posted: 2013.02.18 13:48 | Report
A lot of the high scoring players are eve bittervets who are used to pc and kb/m. The kb/m allows for much higher and faster accuracy than the controller, though I haven't seen any really good kb/m players around (with the top end sticking to pc, where the top competition is).
I'm an average kb/m player and the last fps I played was counter-strike back in 2002. From day1 dust I felt I had a severe advantage because of the controller disparacy. Top end pad players are really good, but in general the public games just feel like you can dance around slow turning controllers, whereason a public cs game you generally could not allow the bads to try and shhot you.

Under Accessory Settings, there is a "Mouse Pointer Speed" setting that you may need to change, a lot of the more expensive gaming mice need this set to "fast" for their DPI settings to work properly, without that it feels like you are moving the mouse through sludge it can be that slow.
@KingBabar: *Any* PC/KBM player is going to feel like they have an advantage over Controller Players, because that is what they are used to, and a controller feels crap to them (and me).
The same goes for players who are purely used to controllers, their KBM skills are going to suck, so when using it they feel like they have an advantage over KBM Players. There is no major advantage of one over another gameplay wise, besides purely what the player is used to. I, personally, cannot use those controllers for FPS for crap. When I have grown up using a KBM for nearly 30 years, it is how I play and is what I am used to. If I were forced to use that POS control I would not even be here playin the game.
There are amazing players using both control sets. Perhaps you need to pick up your own game if you think KBM has such an 'advantage'? |

wtf dude.... this is not a pc, it's a games console.
the game needs to provide a fair playing field for everyone regardless of input device. this isn't some elitist neo **** bs. You're lucky KB/M support is in it at all, there was a lot of discussing about whether it should be included and we voted it should.
sure the deadzone may not be good - moving it a tiny bit with a mouse makes it jump crazy. but there's deliberately slow turn speed because the weight you carry slows the character down. this isn't team fortress or quake where you run at ferrari speeds or turn at break neck speed. This is Dust. On a console. Where the primary player base uses a controller.

If you'd done even the most brief and simple search of KB/M problems you'd know these things
100 is the SLOWEST setting for mouse sensitivity
And mouse smoothing makes it even slower, make sure its turned off. |

Just a simple way of telling that I'm quite the good player without typing my KDR or Win Loss ratio on these forums. Since the default leaderboards are based on the number of kills this placeing will vary all the time. Its just meant as help to find me more easily. The dudes that tell me to "get gud" can check it and compare it to their own stats....
I'm just tired of people automatically responding to all the legit complaints/feedback with "pick up your game" or "get gud". I can write my KDR and W/L ratio here but I would only come across as a chest thumping idiot.

Ok, Yes there is a bug with Controllers not reaching full acceleration on Tanks (and possibly other vehicles) while they do on KBM, However that is more of a bug with Controllers than an advantage for KBM. Perhaps I should have clarified that a bit, but it is not like that bug is a secret, it is plastered all over the Tech Support forums, and CCP acknowledged it in IRC and are working on it. This *is* a beta, bug finding is what we are supposed to be doing. As for being better in general, no I don't believe there is any advantage besides what you are used to using. Perhaps you should try it yourself? That would certainly be a better way to find out than relying on third party information that may or may not be as accurate.
I honestly don't care who you think you are ingame. As such I probably should have phrased what I said better, but oh well. The point I was trying to make, is you are coming across as attacking KBM in every single thread about the subject, either because you don't personally like it, or because there is some perceived advantage (outside of known bugs) other than what one is used to.
I, personally, cannot use Controllers for FPS games for crap. Near 30 Years of PC/KBM Gaming will do that to a person. Yes I am a PC Gamer, but I have never disparaged consoles in general. I love consoles for bringing accessible gaming to the General Masses. I also love the fact that Sony and CCP have decided to give me the same freedom of choice in using my preferred input method, that PC Gamers Enjoy, by allowing me to use my preferred method, just as a PC Gamer can plug in/use a controller for games with which they prefer to use one. There are definitely some games in which I prefer to use a controller of some sort. Racing Games for example, you simply don't have the fine axis control on a keyboard like you do with a Controller, it is either full on or full off, no inbetween. Despite the acceleration bug, I still feel controllers are better for flying a Dropship in DUST. Again, personal preference, some may prefer KBM for that.
If I could not use my KBM, I would not be playing the game. It is as simple as that. I was around in Closed Beta since Mordu's Trials opened up, but I didn't start playing a lot until they added KBM support. I tried, I really did, but I just cannot use controllers for FPS. This is also not the first console FPS I have tried. I went out and bought one of the new Super-Slim PS3s with 12gb Flash Storage, plenty enough for DUST, so that I didn't have to keep borrowing my brother's PS3 all the time. This is definitely a good thing for Sony and CCP, but it would never have happened if they didn't add KBM support. It has also opened me to another platform for gaming, and I have been trying many new games because of it. I also know many others like me, who grew up on KBM, who cannot use Controllers for FPS, and would not be playing DUST if they were forced to use one. Many of them own PS3s, play plenty of games on em, but not FPS due to that one factor. I think Sony and CCP are bloody smart to give DUSTers the only real advantage (in my opinion) PC Gaming has over Console gaming, and that is the advantage of CHOICE. The ability to choose what you want to use to play the game, instead of being forced into one or another form of input.
I love DUST, have played EVE for years, give plenty of money to CCP and Sony, hell I bought a PS3 just for this game. Should I be excluded from the game simply because you don't personally like KBM? I don't think that is fair, in any way, shape or form. I'd much rather find and get bugs fixed, and open this game to as many people as possible, regardless of what input method they prefer. |

It's funny to me, because I don't think I've ever heard the words "get on my level, i'm 110th baby!". I realize those weren't your words, but that's what played out in my head. Agreed in general terms. They should make it as equal as possible. The OP however is asking for a "buff" to KB/M, which is very wrong indeed. I have no plans what so ever for buying a KB/M for this game. In Seraphim we have many good players using the KB/M setup, many of them say its better than controllers for a number of reasons. The guy I told you about calling me I have known for 20 years and played with him for almost 10, the sources are reliable.
I really don't think the advantage the KB/M people have is such a big deal really, its just that its more effective with some playstyles. In other words, the KB/M combo needs a a slight nerf in some areas to put it at the same level as a DS3, it definately don't need a buff at least.... |

As a KB/M user, I will just say this:
Take away my input device, or nerf it somehow, and I go back to treating this game as yet another fake FPS on the console who 'says' it will be serious, then turns around and punches you in the gut.
I don't play FPS without a keyboard and mouse. I've paid Aur for this game already. |

Oh, I definitely agree it should be as equal as possible. I do not agree with the OP's request for a buff, definitely. KBM is pretty good where it is at, imo. There are plenty of different settings to tweak if you need to adjust them.
Many people do prefer KBM, and will promote them no end, and to them they probably are better than controllers. I feel the same way, although I try not to be "in your face" about it, and I have no problem if people feel more comfortable with the DS3. Like you say though, that doesn't apply to everyone. Many love the DS3, and will promote it no end aswell. Some people's playstyles will suit KBM better, some DS3 better.
I think once the acceleration bug is fixed (giving the controller a slight 'buff' as it were, though not really it is more a bug fix) there will not be any real advantage one way or another, aside from a person's playstyle of course, but that's subjective. We won't really know until it is fixed, I guess.
On a side note, you really should plug in your KB, even just the one from your comp, just once and try to drive a LAV. Barreling full speed down a straight then try to do a tiny, soft turn. Doesn't go so well will instant full lock turns hahaha. It is Comedy Gold. :D A fun memory, ending up sliding sideways into a tiny rock and flipping the LAV. Or, trying to to a tiny adjustment to direction and end up flying off a cliff. Fun stuff lmao. Anyone who is crazy enough to get in a LAV with me probably doesn't agree however haha. |

It should help
Just as a heads up CCP messed all the controls in the game up. First like previously stated you need to go into your PS3 and adjust the game mouse from normal to High. Then in game each different type of controller MUST be maxed out, for the PS move you need to change the dead-zone as it strangely effects the mouse as well. Turn all dead-zones to 0, move all types of controllers to MAX speed then go play, from there you adjust your mouse sensitivity to what you want, its pretty simple if you understand what to do. At this point I can jump in air and do a 180 and kill anyone behind me in one motion.
Also all those D3 players, HTFU its New Eden you wimps. |
