I just downloaded Dust 514 today... and the lag is horrible. The game is actually awesome, but the lag.. WTF? Well it's probably my problem. I don't think it is with the internet, I just did a speedtest and it was 15mbps. The problem is that I see everyone is playing smoothly but when I walk it is like glitchy and laggy. It stops every second I try to sprint or walk or drive or anything. It has nothing to do with controller because I checked with other controller too. Does anyone know the solution? :( I would hate it if I can't play the game because of this. |

If it's framerate lag (the game is really choppy, like you are watching a slideshow), then a SSD for your PS3 will fix the problem (did for me, never have framerate lag anymore, and I used to have to every few games).
Sucks bawls that we have to buy expensive hardware to make the game play correctly, but CCP really blows at developing console PS3 games ATM. So the player has to spend more money on their PS3 to play smoothly, sad but true.
However if its network latency, then no matter how fast your connection is, if your latency sucks you will lag bad. Somebody can have a 9,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 yottabyte connection speed, but if their latency sucks, then they will lag worse than somebody playing on 56k dial-up with good latency. |

Check your pings to CCP servers. Google how to test it. They seem to like ~160ms and > 250ms will be in definite problem areas. Forget your CoD 50ms ping times, this is the DUST.
Don't forget to forward the ports that PSN and CCP require. There is a sticky post on the first page of this forum (technical support/bugs). Voice requires different ones than Battle Server does.
Addressing those should solve most of your issues regarding networking causing lag. As your post sounded like you lagged immediately they are the likely candidates. If you are using a wireless router having the network right is very important from what I understand.
There is the "PS3 Rebuild Database" solution as well:
http://www.ps3blog.net/2011/01/28/tips-and-tricks-ps3-rebuild-database-faq-recovery-menu/
but is probably for someone that has a very busy PS3. I have never used it and make no claims regarding the procedure.
Once you are playing for several hours and experience sound clipping issues or heavy lag you need to restart your client and some even reset the PS3 although I never have felt the need.
Lag is worse in heavily congested battles, intense fire fights, multiple vehicles and areas with several Objectives in close proximity. There is a map with three Letter Objectives in a small industrial area (Skim Junction see Map Feedback forum for map names and details) that can cause problems occasionally. That may be connected with memory starvation and being on the edge of needing a restart.
As stated using a SSD will solve several issues regarding loading textures which can decrease lag. SSDs were unknown outside of servers when the PS3 was designed and it uses a slow laptop hard drive as well. The faster standard HDD draw too much power and generates too much heat to safely use in the PS3 so the only upgrade beyond size is the SSD.
This is a Beta and crashes are known. I always reset the PS3 after a crash, that may or may not be significant. It is just my personal preference as a retired software developer.
Good Luck, enjoy your Immortality down here in the Dust. |

If behind a firewall, you'll need to open the ports as was stated above, think that might be your issue. Also for chat function, team chat on, push to talk off as a lot of people had lag/glitches from the opposite settings. |
