SO it looks like one of the clear advantages of the scout is supposed to be their scan radius and scan precision. So I wanted to test this out and really see if I could feel how sensors are supposed to work.
With Long Range Targeting II, 2 basic targetting range amplifiers, and a precision enhancer (i.e. no tank) I am able to pick up most dropsuits 40m away or less.
What does it mean to 'pick them up'. See this is where it gets weird. At first I assumed your radar scanned 360 degrees. I did a few experiments where I'd just face a wall and see what found me. And in remote maps where bluedots would not have been looking toward me or people sneaking up on me, I did get jumped from behind with little warning. So the scanner did not work out to range behind me.
Then I started paying attention to the "V" on the tacnet. There seemed to be a very direct correspondence that got very pronounced when I started to use my long range scanners. There were a lot more reds showing up in front of me and on the radar in the V than not in the V. Also, they all seemed to pop up within my max scanning range. Enemies outside that range, I basically had to put my reticle on to see.
Conclusion: I think this trait is extremely unappreciated. There were points where I am pretty sure I was scanning people through walls getting an advanced notice of an assault. Also, being able to see past 15m above you when your team is about to attack a higher position means more awareness for positioning. This is crucial for close quarters fights. |

Once I have the skills and suit to do it I think Ill put an enhanced precision enhancer in the high, and a +45% target range amplifier, and an enhanced dampener in the low. This theoretically should let you scan in safety and you can light people up, let your friends draw their fire then cream them from the side.
Even with my initial fit I described in my OP I was getting in the top 25% in the leaderboard most of the time. Just watching where red dots are going you can really quickly learn how to sneak up on distracted dots. Your survivability comes a lot more from getting an early notice. I very rarely if ever was suprised by reds. |

The precision enhancer is a high slot. |

Once you get a 3rd low slot on your suit, nobody will be able to see you anyway (if you wear a dampener). Did the math and at every meta level of suit the scout should always be able to avoid people's scanners with a dampener and not sprinting. The only time they get outclassed in stealthiness is if you have your logi put 4 dampeners on the vk0 or vk1. IOW if stealthiness ever becomes an issue that people start sacrificing a high slot in order to detect you, the balance of power still tips toward your favor because A. you will have scan range advantage, and B. they will be sacrificing a highslot.
Even then a fully dampened and skilled scout or logi should be undetectable by fully precision fitted scouts or logis.
Right now, the counter to the black ops (dampened shotty scout) would have to be at least a logi or sensor scout, the logi would have at least 2 scan precisions and the scout might get by with 1, but probably also needs 2 to be safe. The logi has the disadvantage again because he'd have shorter range also.
Also noteworthy: at max skills a scout can have a scan range of over 90 m. |

Also, I'd like to try running around in a team of 4 sensor scouts some time with TAC AR, a GEK, a MD, and a laser. I would think that they would be extremely difficult to catch unless cornered as they could kite at range very easily and know where you are before you see them. |
