That's it. I've waited too long for this. I have decided to drop the guns (all of them) and go back to using the Nova Knives. I'm still dedicated towards completing my goal of reaching Gallente Scout Dropsuit Level 5 (costing 1.2million SP to upgrade) since I'm already at over 740,000 SP as I have been grinding too far to make any detours now.
Anyways, the main reason I finally decided to drop the guns is pretty obvious to me.
Just recently I went into a series of ambush matches with my corp mates looking to have some fun. I spawn with my usual Scout/Uplink/SMG fit and after finally managing to place an uplink and hosing down a merc or two with Minmatar bullets I suddenly had this strange feeling deep inside of me. No, it wasn't lunch related. It was the sudden urge to drop the gun and pull out my Ninja Knifing fit that I had gaining dust for a long time.
I started the match already with just one or two kills with the SMG so I decided to continue the rest of the match with just the knife. Nothing but the knife. After successfully sprint-killing my first knife victim in the match I suddenly had this rush of adrenaline coursing right through my veins. It's like the ninja inside me finally woke up.
My next target was another scout wielding a shotgun who already spotted me (it's ambush, so no one can hide) so I decided to flank him left and right to throw off his shots. It seemed to work as I closed in on him rapidly forcing him to deplete his entire clip of ammunition so that I can swoop in for the kill while he is trapped having to reload his shotgun. Knife meets flesh and that shotgun scout bites the Dust.
Immediately after that I chased after an assault flanking him in every way possible to avoid his bullets while I force him into a corner up against the Southwestern base of the tower in the Line Harvest map. It wasn't long until I trapped him further against an even smaller corner where I not only have him right where I need him to be but I also caused him to run out of ammo as well. I wondered what his reaction was when I killed him.
Once again I found myself in the line of fire from another scout who spotted me and chased after him the same way like I did with the others only this time I forced him over the hill where the B objective was located. I ran around the small hill being mindful of his location on the TACNET (thank you scout scan resolution) timing my moment of attack with his moment to turn the corner. SLASH! SLASH! And down goes the merc.
CURSES!!!!
Every time I kill so many mercs at once there is always that one merc that comes around the corner to finish me off. But at least he came just in time to see the carnage I left behind.
I respawn at my uplink which is thankfully still then and still unnoticed. I immediately noticed a female assault sprinting towards the red zone with a sniper rifle so I chased after her hoping to land another kill which I managed to do.
But then the real action began as I joined up with the rest of my team at the center of the map where everyone was duking it out near the tabletop structure. Guns were blazing, HMGs were roaring and there I was wondering WHAT THE **** WAS I THINKING!?!?! I was hustling so much around the corners that I kept having to mash the L3 button to preserve my stamina and no matter how hard I tried there was always that one enemy merc around the corner. I don't know how I pulled it off by I only died 5 times that entire match while coming out with at least 7 kills. Incredible how much hugging the containers for cover pays off to save my butt.
In the end, I felt so empowered that I was finally reminded as to why I started this journey in the first place. Sorry SMG. Sorry 'Exile' Assault. Sorry Swarm Launcher. We had great times together and I enjoyed bringing hell those tank drivers and making chard steak out of those LAVs, but the time has come that I have to retire you all and move on with the Nova Knives. They call for me and I must answer the call.

Yes, it was, why?
That may have been either me or my knifing partner causing you hell during that particular match. |

===Update 25 Feb 2013===
I finally reached the 1million SP mark in terms of 'Unallocated' skill points. Man, what a grind. That leaves me with just over 200,000 SP left to grind which when combined with active SP gains I should be able to finally wear that Prototype Scout Suit within this week. Hopefully by this Friday. Once that happens, my focus will shift to what's left to train which are now made insignificant after grinding this much. I realize now that the amount of SP I am grinding this very moment will be the exact amount of total SP I grind for the previous 1-4 levels of the Gallente Scout Dropsuit skill book.
It makes me wonder what everyone else must feel at this point if they are trying to go all proto in regards to the suits given the training multipliers that they have. Exhausting right? It just puts all other training to shame so that when you finally focus on the little skill books with smaller multipliers they don't seem that much to train on anymore.
Overall, I'm just happy that this is almost over and I will finally be able to focus on upgrading the Nova Knife from the Standard one to the Proto. Once that is done, it's only a matter of time when I finally skill up Mobility, Endurance, Vigor, Dropsuit Command, and Profile Dampening (all to level 5).
Please be aware that even after all of this, my journey will have only begun as I will finally be able to outflank my enemies more effectively and sneak on them more stealthily without having to worry about those damn snipers. To think that all of this is will happen to me SOON (TM) and that this is just before CCP introduces the cloaking modules. God, I can't wait for Fanfest 2013 to see what they have in store for the scouts.
So far, in my current state, it's been mostly hit-or-miss in regards to the Standard Nova Knife. It's just so limiting. The charge time is long and the damage output is minimal even with 2x Complex Sidearm Damage Modules. But that's ok with me. That was usually expected from a weapon that's considered entry level for most players. It's kind of like handing over a pair of safety scissors to a little kid just to let him see how it is. But as the kid grows up, so will the level of the tools he/she will handle assuming they build some kind of interest for it.
When I see a Nova Knife, I don't see a weapon that people can just fool around with and not take seriously. I see a tool capable of much greater things. With the right skills and enough experience, that Nova Knife will soon be able to topple empires in a single swipe. The perfect tool for the perfect assassin. Speaking of which, I like to be able to track down which planet and district my target is just like how Eve players use NPC Agents to track down others. I still have a hit contract open that needs to be satisfied for a customer of mine. But that's a topic I'll bring up later on in the Feedback section of the forums. In the mean time, I have 200,000 SP left to grind for. |

Nice tips, but they're mostly irrelevant when just simply walking backwards will make you immune to any knife attack by anyone not using the bug that allows you to sprint with knives charged. (assuming you are looking at them!)
Maken, it has been far too long since we teamed up. This must happen again.
The next time I log in, I'll shoot you an invite.

Regreting telling you this now I can just see me doing this to the next knifer and seeing (Maken Tosch - Nova knife - Medic 1879) and me thinking damn should never have revealed my secret. Or you will run into me an find out this is an elaborate hoax and charge me to knife and fall to my locus grenade lol.

Thank you. It's not easy being a ninja knifer considering the heavy losses I trend to suffer (knife in a gun fight, duh) but if my suffering brings much needed information to the community, then so be it. |

General Tiberius1 wrote:lol, i love when people try to knife me in my heavy with my HMG equipped NOPE, DENIED!!! BZZZZT! SPLAT!
Funny you mention that. Recently I had a one-on-one encounter with a heavy wielding an HMG. After surprising him with the initial strike and caught his attention, I kept circling the crates in the dark under belly of the structure. As I avoided his shots I threw a slew of flux grenades to take out what little shield he had left and started to circle him like a Rifter on a Megathron. He kept on missing and missing until he stopped firing to get his bearings. Every time that happened I kept widdling down his armor with a few scrapes of the knives. Lucky for him he managed to land a few rounds on me and I died.
I was thinking "well played" because the encounter lasted a good 15-20 seconds. |

Oh, I forgot about that. Well, considering that the "accidental" dev blog mentioned the cloak as an equipment, that will probably be the only use for the equipment slots. You might have to sacrifice one or two kinetic catalyzers, but hey you're invisible. |

Kaze Eyrou wrote:Hey Maken! It has been a while! If you don't remember me, that's ok... I was the lone mercenary running a Logi suit and providing you backup. I believe we were the only 2 in the squad and I was impressed that you ran such a dangerous mission: assassination by Nova Knives. I am thoroughly impressed with you research, your stories, and your dedication to the progression of becoming the first (well maybe not "first" but most well documented?) Master Ninja Knifer. You've actually managed to inspire me into making a Nova Knife build, however, I'm afraid it will have to be put on hold for some time. I have managed to find some love with the Forge Gun and running Logistics with my squad and corp. With the leaked dev blog and hearing your story about how effective those Profile Dampeners are, I will be sure to take points into a (hopefully) fixed active scanner tools. I have no doubt that should I find myself in a match with you and happen to be against you with cloaking abilities, you will be the first person I'll be looking for. I hope to see you again in a match, whether it be on the right side or the wrong side of my gun. If I do see you, I'll try to send you a friendly message. o7
Thank you for the compliment.
I was wondering who it was that kept following me and yes I do recall a logibro following me. Thanks for the help.
Also, my brother specializes in heavies and I can see that the forge guns are a good investment. |
