I just started playing on Saturday so I have a real noob question. I skilled up so I could use a Kinesis basic shield extender and killswitch GEK-38 which I purchased with Aurum. I made a drop suit fitting using a militia suit and equipped the items. When I died the aurum purchased items were lost. Is this normal for I thought the aurum items were blueprint orginals and had unlimited uses. I am planning to buy a sever logistics suit and equip such items. If i had the sever suit and died would all the items in the suit still be saved ? Just trying to figure out the basic fitting for dust. Thank you in advance for any explanations. |

Blueprint suits/modules will have a blue background on their fitting icon and cost several thousand AUR The ones with normal backgrounds that cost only a hundred or so AUR are single use items
The Sever suit is a BPO, so if you buy it you have infinite uses |

Some of the Aurum items are blueprints, while others are lost when you die. The thumbnails for blueprint items are highlighted in blue. Most of the Aurum items are not blueprints. There are militia blueprints which are specifically labelled as such.
The Sever Logi suit is a blueprint. If you died while wearing it, only the blueprint items you were using would be saved. For example, if you had a Sever suit with a Killswitch GEK and you died in it, you would lose the Killswitch and keep the Sever suit (needing to restock the GEK before using the fitting).

Thank you for the quick reply Kram. Now I understand and fortunately it only cost me 80 aurum to lean the lesson. I will invest in the Sever suit and slowly fill it with BPO items. |

The sever suit is good, because it gives you early access to a logistics suit with 3 equipment slots. BPOs for militia gear are an option, but given the low cost of militia items I wouldn't recommend buying BPOs for them, unless you have AUR burning a hole in your pocket.
I'd suggest just using the sever suit with regular militia gear (buy in bulk and you won't have to worry about resupplying for a while) and use your AUR on skill boosters instead |

I'd suggest making a couple of Sever suit fittings, one full of militia gear and another with the best you can use. I suggest a costly fitting because running militia fittings doesn't give much incentive to skill up into the equipment and modules you're running militia equivalents of.
Also, if you're using the Sever suit to run a medic, my experience is that running more expensive medic fittings leads to much more ISK/WP, simply because your survivability and that of your team increases. Keeps you on your toes, too. If you don't care about kills/death, a free suit can lead to carelessness.
My preference is to run expensive suits as default, then if I'm doing really badly and lose a couple of suits, not being defended by my team, or otherwise decide that the match isn't worth the investment, start running free suits so the match remains profitable. Usually I only lose a suit or two and my team-mates come back to life with 80% health and get repaired while resupplying ammo which is a significant advantage. |

In my opinion, I would advice against any BPO other than the Raven or the Sever suit. The Raven is exactly the same as a Type-I Assault Suit, which costs 6,800 isk, while the Sever is the same as the Type-I Logi, which is 9.4k. The militia gear is incredibly cheap and will only be used for a shorter period of time.
Basic Armor plates, for example, take less PGU/CPU and give 65 armor per rather than 40 armor per. They run fairly cheap as well so the BPO militia gear ends up saving a scant amount because you will want to use Basic Armor plates most of the time. But the suits are a different story.
The Type-I Logistics and Assault Suit are not bad for just non-important match fights and give a huge advantage over people running Enforcer level gear. For 19,800 Aurum, you save 6.8 or 9.4k every time you drop. With a basic Assault Rifle and Militia level gear, my 'Raven' set-up runs at a little less than 7k per death. Having to buy the suit would have doubled the price. It is the same for the Sever suit.
Let's say you die 300 times in a Sever suit instead of a Type-I; it would cost you 2,820,000 just for the suits. In contrast, saving a 1,000 from using BPO plates instead of Militia plates would only net 300,000 which is 2 games on Ambush to recoup.
Be well. |

I appreciate the helpful input guys. I can now see the logic of getting the Sever suit and equipping it with militia gear as I train up my skills. Been reading everything I can find about Logistics.

US$0.04 for a lesson. Not bad and cheap enough for the short term.
I agree the standard level BPO drop suits are nice to have. I use consumable Aurum items for my supporting suits for things like swarm launchers I haven't gotten around to spending SP on. |
