I find the strafing speed when aiming down the sight is too slow at the moment.
Initially, I wanted movement speed to be increased for the Scout, Assault, and Logistics dropsuits for better strafing. After getting a feel for both KB+M and DS3, as well as trying to strafe in each available Dropsuit, it seems the problem with strafing isn't completely the fault of the universal movement speed, but rather an issue with the deadzone. Don't get me wrong, I would still like an increase in movement speed, but my main focus at the moment is on increasing the strafe speed when aiming down the sight, and getting some deadzone options for the Dualshock 3.
Back to the deadzone. I noticed my strafe input was quicker with the keyboard than with the DS3. It simply felt more responsive. Of course, this comes as no surprise. To try and resolve this issue, I want to request options for fine-tuning the deadzone for movement and aiming on the Dualshock 3.
Onto strafe speed. I recall reading way back in the day that the lighter dropsuits would be able to circle-strafe the Heavy dropsuits and actually have a chance in a face-to-face battle against a Heavy wielding the HMG. I would love to be able to do that. Probably would be able to if the deadzone issue was resolved.
Allow me to be clear on the following points: I'm not asking for the movement of Quake or Unreal Tournament. I'm fine with the movement speed for aiming down the sights being slower than normal movement, While I would love to be able to have Halo or Resistance: Fall of Man's strafe, I'm not asking for dancing duels.
What I do want, is a faster strafe speed when aiming down the sights.
Ideally, I'd like to see this increase for Assault and Logistics dropsuits, with a possible increase to Scout. Don't get me wrong, Scout should primarily be used for sniping and recon, so any increase should be minor. The same goes for Logistics, being that its role is primarily support for the team. Neither should be able to replace the role of an Assault dropsuit being the rush-down, run-n-gun, up-in-your-face threat.
At the very least, the Assault dropsuit should have its strafe speed increased, especially the ADS strafe speed. I want to request an increase for Logistics, but not enough that it is more efficient than the Assault dropsuit. Scout probably doesn't need the ADS strafe speed increase.
I'm a bit undecided on whether or not universal movement speed should be increased. I would prefer to first test out how the game plays out with a smaller deadzone for more responsive controls, in addition to a faster strafe speed when aiming down the sights.
I feel these changes would bring a better flow and feel to gunfights. Let me know what you think. |

I'm against anything just being handed to me, but if it's core mechanics like deadzone issues and responsive controls I'm okay with it. As for the Strafe Speed and even ADS speed I'd prefer it if were skill based. So a character would start off slow, but as they put SP's into the skill they could steadily increase their speed. I feel the same way about universal movement as well, add in another skill that increases movement and sprinting speed. |

I don't understand how CCP can state they are making a hardcore shooter, yet retain the flawed fundamentals that make CoD a casual shooter.
+1 to ADS strafe buff |

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "having anything just being handed to you."
Personally, I'd find it silly if we had to start off with slower strafe than we have now and have to upgrade it through skills.
Upon playing MAG the other day, I noticed it had a decent strafe speed when aiming down the sight. Although, I only tried with the reflex sight and a light+ armor, it was still an adequate amount of speed. On top of that, I could curve my sprinting direction with the left stick, which I'd love to have in DUST. I've noticed the straight sprinting in DUST has gotten me stuck on something when I try to fall back and stick to cover. |

I'm actually glad this thread exists. It gives me a chance to post this again:
I WANT MY RUNNY-DANCY-JUMPY-SHOOTY-SUCKY COMBAT BACK! TACTICAL COMBAT IS FOR LOSERS!
This is what I see/hear every time someone makes talks about increasing character strafing/movement speed. |

Sounds like you need to purchase the skillbook for vision and hearing if that's what you understood from reading my post.
I explicitly stated, even underlined, that I'm not asking for dancing duels.
Where did I even say tactical combat was "for losers"? Increasing the ADS strafe speed would actually add to the tactical aspect of combat. Or are you too conceited to understand this? Let me bring you down to Earth from your "DUST IS SO EXTREMELY COMPLEX AND TACTICAL, YOU NEED A Ph.D TO GRASP IT" planet. People already jump around in gunfights. MAG managed to be a great tactical shooter despite its strafe speed being a bit faster than CoD/BF3/etc. DUST is actually closer to CoD's and BF3's vapid tacticool style than real tactical shooters.
You want to see real tactical combat? Play ARMA, America's Army, Red Orchestra, Operation Flashpoint, Rainbow Six, Battlefield Project Reality, or even the old Ghost Recon games on PC. Stop being so pretentious just because DUST requires slightly more thinking than crap like Call of Duty and Battlefield 3.
Increasing ADS strafe speed and allowing an adjustable deadzone for movement and aiming with the DualShock3 is not going to take away from the strategical/tactical elements of DUST as a whole. |
