Greetings all,
Just wanted to post some impressions of the game while still have the new game feel.
First, I like it. I really do. The game has all the fun of something like Battlefield but requires that you really get to know your characters and what they can do.
OK so how it felt going in:
Had to get used to using a controller. Getting your settings right for you is something you should probably do right out of the gate. Feels a little floaty, but I have been playing FPS with a mouse and keyboard and you can do that with this game if you prefer.
Getting a grasp of all that is available and how it works will take a little time. You have skill points, which accrue far more slowly and ISK which you will build up much more rapidly. Basically skills allow you to access better equipment and use it more effectively and ISK allows you to buy equipment. You can also use AUR, but you need to buy this with your own cash. I think the benefit there is when you buy it, it is yours for good. Otherwise when you die your equipment dies with you.
Getting your first set up and deciding how you want to specialize will be critical as there is a starting level of 500K Skill points and you need to use them wisely. Look on Youtube or ask on these forums for good starter builds.
BUY MILITIA GEAR! Militia gear, at least in the beginning, is very important as it opens up gear for you that DOES NOT REQUIRE SKILLS to use. Naturally the other gear is better, particularly after level one, but the militia gear will definitely get you in the game and make you competitive. I didn't do this in the beginning and it made things very difficult. I was waiting to skill up to get new gear not realizing I could use militia gear to have access to nice load outs.
As you accumulate ISK, you will be able to stock up and build you load out numbers up - a critical point because gear is perishable (unless you buy blueprints with AUR).
Realize that specialization is key so don't expect to take down a tank or a even a heavy with Gatling (which you will basically die to every time - there are OP in my opinion, although they should obviously be tougher than someone wearing lighter gear).
Most of all, give the game a chance and try to get in with friends or a corp as it makes a huge difference in this game.
Overall I am really enjoying this game. It is really unique and has a lot to offer and it is only in Beta. |

People tend to forget the rule of "specialization is key" All I ever see are the same assaults with ARs- probably all running around with the same types of modules they had since they first spawned in a starter fit. Something else people tend to not realize is that heavies are the true frontline dropsuits- assaults should be flanking, not charging straight in. |

Ain't nobody gonna be frontlining as a heavy with all these pesky snipers around lol. I always considered heavies as the "stay and defend objectives" guys. |

I tend to see them defending more as well. And they can be tough to dislodge. But I see teams that good roll people, I know I have gotten rolled in a few games. But don't get frustrated - try and hook up with others is the way to go. If you are playing a good team with air and armor you pretty much done unless your team is doing the same. |

If you're new to all of this then the first thing I would suggest is purchasing bpos with AUR. I still use my raven and all but one of my slots on that loadout are bpos. Besides helping you to stack ISK, which you will need for skillbooks, this will give you the distinct advantage to stand and fight, whereas you wont be as lucky with standard militia gear. As for skillbooks, yes you should specialize. Especially in the beginning. Later it would be wiser to branch out |
