Hello, I thought I would post a simile to help instill patience in some people who are complaining about the open beta.
Beta testing is like helping a neighbor move in. You do it because you want them to be successful and you get satisfaction from helping others. Maybe you will get to learn something about the people moving in next door. It is not the funnest activity you could be spending your free time on. It involves work, and you are making a commitment to help and not just play around while your neighbor (the developer) does all the heavy lifting.
I know that a lot of people think that they are "experienced beta testers" or whatever, but the attitude that getting into beta is like getting into the game early evidences a lack of understanding about what beta testing entails. Software products that are in open beta are not guaranteed to work, they often are only available when the developer needs feedback from testers, and they are not made available so that the testers can benefit through their use. They are made available so that the testers can give feedback on the (usually many, many) issues that need attention before the software is completed commercially and the beta ends.
So, if you were dying to get into the beta for Dust 514 because it "sounded" like an awesome game (it does, in my opinion), what you are really dying for is for Dust to reach a high level of polish and completeness. Testing the open beta will put you in a position to contribute to that process, but you might want to reconsider the notion that getting into the beta will herald an incredibly fun and satisfying experience, unless you really enjoy helping that stranger across the street fit his couch through the front door.

Yeah, but at least when you help a neighbor move in, you get beer.
CCP needs to give us much beer IMO.
