So I joined my first Corp last night, and I decided to build a squad. I don't know how other corps find squads but in ours I guess you just type into the corp chat channel that you're available for play. Now I figured that I would just be able to highlight their name (within the chat box) and hit "send squad invite" but that didn't seem to be the case. I then figured that I could just find their name in the corp list and invite from there....that didn't work either. Then I realized that I had to go to the squad tab and type their name in (some were too hard to remember in the first place) and then you have to click on a big box, and then click on their name (even though you already typed it in) and then hit OK. That is so ridiculously over complicated for such a simple yet and important feature. And I cannot help to think that this game as of right now reminds me of SOCOM:CONFRONTATION. Now I'm sure there's at least ONE person here who remembers Slant Six and their game S:C. The game released legitimately unfinished, nothing worked, none of the menus were easy to navigate through, it was just an absolute disaster (Slant Six ended up just giving up on the game and I don't even think SOCOM games are ever going to come out again.)
The warning I'm giving to CCP is to not be a Slant Six with Confrontation. Too many times I had seen my brother battling on the forums with 1000+ upvote posts for them to completely ignore what the community wanted. LISTEN TO THE COMMUNITY AND THE FORUMS. We play this game, not you. In the end, you are the slaves to us. If someone on these forums writes up a great post with ideas and everyone upvotes it and agrees that they love, DO IT. Do not think that you can make this game on your own, do not be cocky. I wish this game the best of luck and I am still having fun on it regardless, but the frustration of sending a squad invite made me recall repressed memories of a game that had potential but plummeted to its doom.
So for one thing to put on your to-do list, can you just make it sending a squad invite a one-touch-button procces? Example: Highlight their name in the corp channel, hit TRIANGLE, the invite is sent.
EDIT: While I'm at it, I might as well just say that the squad leader setting objectives is super tedious as well. The amount of times I tried to hit "capture C" and it said "no valid target" made it seem like a waste to even try. It's like you need a clear line of sight, even though most of the time the objectives are very far away. I would rather have a drop down menu that lists "capture, defend, attack" and then if you click capture, it lists everything captureable in order of importance (points you don't have, CRU's, supply depots, etc). That way I don't have to sit around with my cross hair turned into a shield, hoping no one comes at me, trying to legitimately SNIPE the point with the cross hair.
OR, since there's no need for 4 different commands (you really only need to 2 (attack/cap) and then defend). Why not just make it so if I hold a button with my crosshair on a structure it will either say attack or defend depending on who owns the structure. There's NO NEED for there to be "attack" AND "capture" all it does is complicate things. Just do attack/defend with a quick button. Sigh. |

Musta Tornius wrote:This has been asked for over and over since squads were first introduced. I'm sure it's one of those fixes that's been written down for future sorting.
Then it should already be in this game. They say that you can tell a rookie dev from a veteran dev just by how well and easy the menus work and navigate. The fact that they launched the game with the complicating squad inviting shows that they must have thought that this was a viable way. That worries me. |

See the thing is, is that I don't want this to be a game where you're always waiting on the NEXT patch to be good. "oh yea that's annoying but it's getting fixed in the NEXT patch" and it just goes on and on. CCP has to be ON THE BALL, no time for dilly dallying. And as of right now, the core features are still not present. I don't know, maybe the studio just isn't big enough to really give this game the support it needs? I think this game has great potential as well, and there's a lot of cool features promised. But as of right now, it's just a watered down battlefield or killzone game that runs on probably 20 FPS when there's more than 3 people on the screen. All we have is some skirmish with the PROMISE of cooler game modes and features.
Now don't get me wrong, skirmish is fun, but can't battlefield 3 do everything we have RIGHT NOW but with 10x better graphics, animations, framerate, CONTROL SCHEME (using vehicles is almost pointless the controls and handling is so bad).
Two things this game has is the ISK system where guns and weapons get depleted so the incentive to try hard is always there, and a great progression system. These are both great features but there still needs to be more. I know it's only a "beta" but with a game that's not going to get a big retail release they needa listen to the community.
Riot Games (makers of League of Legends) have the same business model as CCP is using for Dust. League of Legends is the most played E-Sport (I'm not even going to call it a video game, because it's not, it's an E-Sport at this point) and the pro players live in mansions. And since I've played LoL for over 3 years, I can tell you that Riot listens to the community more than anything. Think of it like a restaurant, the chef makes exactly what you tell them to, if the doesn't it gets sent back. When dishes don't get sent back, you stay in business. |

Battlefield doesn't get Orbital Bombardments but seriously and i know this is same old worn out, hung out to dry, stamped into the ground excuse, but this is a beta, most of the core features are still being developed and have to pass closed testing to eliminate the worst bugs before they pass it on to us to try out. And don't forget that the shanghai studio(the ones developing dust) are currently on vacation till the 21st, expect to see things pick up after then.
I really HATE HATE HATE to say this, but we need to stop glorifying the Orbital Strike. It's honestly, the same as any killstreak (or more recently, scorestreak) you can find on COD. It's a fun feature, and I like how it's based off of your squads WP, but at the end of the day, you just bring up the mini-map and click the area. It's nowhere near anything never heard of before, |

S Park Finner wrote:To the OP's underlying point... The user interface is inconsistent, complicated and often does not adhere to PS or established FPS standards. These issues have be raised by the community from the very early days of the closed beta. In CCP's defence, they are trying to make a single interface do triple duty with DS3, Move and KB/M -- not an easy job. None the less, CCP have not addressed those UI issues.
Certainly, CCP have no responsibility to share details of it's plans, the nature of it's testing, or it's reaction to user feedback with the beta player community. However, after repeated versions of "we read all your comments and take them into account" over the months it isn't unreasonable that the community would expect more interaction than it gets.
Regarding the Jita Riots... I see their significance differently. We needed the Jita riots to get CCP's attention. Arguably, if they had been sensitive to the community's issues the riots would not have been necessary. There's an appropriate aphorism, 'Some people don't see the writing on the wall until their back is up against it."
I can't give sympathy for a company that is wasting their time trying to get the move to work. The only thing we should do with the move as gamers, is MOVE ON. I had to watch KZ3, Resistance 3, and SOCOM 4 all be inferior games to their past titles because Sony tried to push the Move onto the developers. It takes up too much time and resources to get the move to work well or even work at all. Also, from the looks of it, this game isn't shaping up to be the most "casual" game of all time. I know EVE players who say that EVE was their second job. We've got no time to be running around with motion sensors. |

At the end of the day, I know that this game has great features and potential and concepts, but you need the core to be working properly before we start talking about big connections with EVE and Dust. The day I can engage someone in a close range gun fight, and the framerate stays at a STABLE 30 frames, then I will gladly throw some AUR on my character and support Dust and CCP.
Call of Duty is the most approachable shooter right now. Regardless of it being EASYMODE or not, it's APPROACHABLE. That's why it sells like hotcakes. Now I don't want this game to be anything like COD gameplay wise, but you need to understand your opponents and competitors in order to beat them. The smooth feeling of COD's 60 FPS, the easy to understand guns and class building, the ability to play with friends quickly.
I didn't mean to come off as a ****-head at all. I just wanted to compare a developer and a player, to a chef and a customer at a restaurant. Also, this post is mainly recalling my experience with SOCOM: Confrontation, where the developers refused to add in features that the community had been asking for SINCE SOCOM 1. They thought that they could do whatever they wanted, and it ended bad. |
