Currently there is a lot of dead time in Dust 514, much of which is completely unnecessary. The non-gaming experience could with relatively small and simple changes be made a lot more streamlined.
A few suggestions how to make things better.
- Add a queue system where a player can queue to the next game from a match or perhaps have an auto-queue feature. This way a player does not need to load the mercenary quarters in-between each match.
- Streamline the process from starting the game to entering the captain's quarters: Add a do not display again option to the first confirmation box that's displayed as the game is started. Make the cinematic not appear again once it's been viewed (after all, it's accessible from the in-game UI if one should want to watch it again). Make your last selected character the default choice when selecting which character to enter the game with. Make press start to play window X or start.
- Reposition the character as you enter the mercenary quarters so that you are immediately within range of the visual Battle Finder module.
- Whilst I doubt it'll ever happen, make the mercenary quarters optional altogether and provide a 2D interface as an option, similarly as it's done in EVE Online. This assuming players would save a worthwhile amount of time by not having to load the 3D quarters environment.
- Make players unable to join games that are about to end. |

Uh, which Video Game Engine have you been writing software for recently? Specifically.
Because we are not using the one you have used nor been dreaming about.
There are loading screens because something needs to be on the screen while video textures are changed and code is loaded to perform different functionality.
We are focusing on Game Play in the DUST Beta. There were some features in the War Barge that have been removed. They were interesting but they are gone. Probably because they used too much memory/space and didn't help test the game play itself.
Accessing the database, market and all that other stuff takes memory and textures. Guess what using different maps cause to happen? I will that as an exercise for the reader.
Remember the PS3 is ancient and has almost no memory. Less than a modern smart phone. So juggling is normal and will be for a while longer.
The Battle Finder has a list of Request/Feedback items that is as long as your arm. Maybe longer. It however, is not Game Play. It will get improved and it is in the list. We don't have delivery dates. Sorry.
In the future you might consider reading the Post from the Devs regarding not making lists of features, feedback or bugs. It is near the top of the very page you posted this list on, BTW. |

I know WHY there are loading screens, what I don't know is WHY one needs to load the mercenary quarters in order to just queue a match in-between matches. That's a huge waste of time.
Secondly, who are the "We" in "We are focusing on Game Play in the DUST Beta"? Besides, if players can spend more time actually playing the game that's more effective testing, now isn't it? In addition to that I've seen nothing here saying 'gameplay suggestions only' and at least some of the suggestions I've made would be extremely easy to implement.
EDIT: As for making a list, all of these are related and I'm not going to make a topic for each of these related suggestions. |
