Obviously the best scenario is roll over but it's not possible at the moment, why isn't a monthly skill cap an option?
If I miss a week of playing time, i'm down 200k+ sp with no chance of ever making it up. And it makes the game less of a grind.

I don't like it at all heres why. People will hit cap in a week and a half. The game will be dead for the other 2 and a half weeks. If people don't play if for 2 and half weeks there going to think about it less and be less likely to keep playing.
Edit: I disagree with you but am not going to discuss it further. |

nobody is forcing you to play 8 hours a day for a week and a half.
What do you call a bunch of High Level players going against a bunch of complete noobs/underleveled players?

so what happens to people who are too busy to play at all during the month? does that make it justifiable to make it a 2 month cap? no it doesnt, if you miss one week thats your problem, and i agree with centurion, no one wants a dead game after spending so much time in it.
besides i only get to play like 4 hours max per day if im lucky enough since i work from 8am - 5pm, but you don't see me complaining about changing the weekly cap, and sometimes during the weekend im not even on but i still manage in dust.
so in my opinion the weekly cap is good enough
but you also have a good point, no one wants to play against high level players but then again most of the high level players dont want to play against low level players as well, there wont be any challenge for them, on the other hand its more challenging for the noobs and that makes them more determined, unless they chicken out because they think everything is too OP. |

You underestimate people's willingness to farm, which is what they will do, they will farm, not play. |

Honestly, I think they should switch it back to a daily cap and just raise the cap. |

Yup.. I'm all for people having fair SP, the whole SP gig was one thing I don't like about this game. However if its one thing I've learned its that after people hit the SP cap many don't bother to play until the reset, because they're so focused on SP and if they aren't earning it at the normal rate then it's not worth playing. I know not everyone shares that opinion but it seems to be common among the majority of people I know & seems to be the case based on forum posts.
I'd be playing right now if I wasn't capped out, as it stands I haven't played for a few days.. don't really care to, but if I had a daily SP cap to meet I would be playing tonight. The first few days after the weekly cap reset the game will be more active than the remaining handful days and I'd bet that lack of incentive to play has something to do with it.
That being said I'm not entirely against this idea, just recognizing how people play to farm SP instead of playing because its good fun. |

This is the first time anybody has ever brought up the skill cap. Thats why this thread needed to be created...because no other threads about the skill cap exist. |

four hours a day, that's a lot.
Would be kind of hard not to find time to max out with a month between resets.

Or, I don't care at all about their ability to farm, because guess what? when they max out their characters completely they probably wont be playing anyways, so it's quite irrelevant.
Skill gaps between Vets and newer players is only going to get worse, not better.
I'd rather have games filled with middle-map objective action then sitting at the red line, which is where more then half the games end up now. |

I wonder if CCP never put the SP system in this game, would a lot less people play it? Because that is what it sounds like in this thread.

Don't get me wrong the game is fun but there are other things in life than Dust and while its a good game and I can and do play after I hit cap my priorities change when I'm being rewarded for doing something; isn't that pretty natural?
I'm much more prone to do something else that's also fun over Dust if I'm not missing out on anything that I can't get out of the game any other day.
Whether you have it in common with others or not it still stands that players will be more active in a game if they are rewarded for playing. QQ or look down on others for wanting a level of progression in the game but it is what it is. |

There is a limit to how much CCP can cater. This is not a fps. This is a fPs MMORPG. Being able to grind is kinda one o the major points. If wow limited exp for 6-9 days and disallowed it the next 21-24, you think peoPle woulda played that game? ESPECIALLY as SP is virtually (note I said virtually) the only way to get better gear?
Sorry but until rollover occurs 1 week is the fairest halfway point between casuals and hardcores. I find it ironic that you ask for fairness in the thread title and ask for a system that hurts hardcores significantly in the same breath. |

Actually a monthly cap would be of benefit to us hardcores.
What you would definitely see is an extreme spike in AFK farming and 7day active booster. As its now i can hit my cap in 2 days but even during those 2 days its really 10-15 hours of actualy gameplay or afk time. So yea hardcores will hit that sum easily in 7-8 days without fail.
This will leave the remaining time to come and go as we please and make it even easier to schedule scrims, training and Corp battles without leaving SP on the table. And yes for hardcore the SP grind matters to us its just the way it is.
However at this point i dont want CCP spending a single second more on this as the weekly cap is a good enough TEMPORARY solution until we get rollover which is coming.
Oh love the name btw and yes im egotistical enough to think you created it just for us. |

are you crazy?? players like me would unlock everything within a weeks time!! One month is about 1.6 million SP, with passive its over 2.5 million, and then from then on its however much we wanna grind for additional sp. By the end of two weeks i would have a proto suit with a great fit to go with it, meanwhile normal people who either dont have as good gunplay or just getting into the game would get stomped on by people like me who have been saving up proto suits for the last month now. |

Scrap earning any SP in battle
Just put in the EVE system. Earn SP passively, all the time. CCP can still make money with passive boosters. But it would also be nice to be able to buy the boosters with ISK. |

In those months are 4 weekends. By that second weekend, most people would hit the cap. It took me about 4 days to hit the weekly cap so I'm pretty sure ill hit a monthly cap in 2 weeks and maybe some change. I rather get the soft cap for the remaining 3 days instead of 2 weeks. I can't cant even play hardcore so imagine the hardcore gamers that will hit it in a week?
Lets just stick to a higher weekly cap. I say like 300k |
