The sit in their hills and try to give support to their team, look where the enemy moves and maybe take out some and try to defend our Null-Cannons. And you know what scouts don't do? Run around in CC and kill a shitload of people. Scouts are glascannons, they deal pretty much dmg, but also don't have much health.. Not entirely true imo. A shotty scout with a decent amount of SP specd into profile dampening and mobility/vigor and the like could be quite deadly up front . Just takes a certain kind of player to be able to plan all your moves in a very stealthy way and be in and out in a jiffy and catch a few bodies on the way. Ive seen it done quite a bit. Also couldnt hurt to dabble with a little shield tanking too just in case you do get caught out to give yourself a couple extra seconds of survivability. You're totally right with this, but this might only work in Ambush which is a very quick gamemode, I don't think this strategie pays out that well when you are playing skirmish. I really don't want to sound completely against scouts, I also like using this dropsuit, but not that often. I just think there is a very nice role for every dropsuit, and I really don't get the point why ccp should add so much stuff just to make it more easy for scouts, if it's boring up the hill grab you Assault suit and go for it. Or try the shotgun trick you mentioned. For sure this need skill, I mean ingame SP and also skill from the player, but thats just the same with every class. Once again: OP here's the game, deal with it. Not meant offensive, but I just don't get the point people complaining about everything and try to make CCP inculding things which makes your life more easy. It's not meant to be an easy game and thats what makes Dust intresting over all the other games IMO.
You're missing my point. Here is my point:
Ignoble Son wrote:Based on reality alone, i should AT LEAST be able to perform a diving roll (not to mention go prone). These other abilities (aerial, wall running) are purely situational in battle (and would be further limited by stamina) and completely atchivable by any fit human being, if one devotes the time to the mater (to skill into them so to speak). My ideas are based in reality, which is something I find that this game is in short supply of. one of the best weapons ever created is the human body. I would at least like to be able to use a decent fraction of its potential in combat. |

An action/inaction of arrogance OR hubris is the outward projection of superiority to try to belittle others, whether there is an actual superiority present or not.
I wouldn't even call Rei's post arrogant. He/she does make an assumption as to what your reason for the new mechanics is, and gives very limited advice as to what the solution might be, but the tone is not of arrogance, but of a rough helping hand. Whether that was the intention or not, I don't know.
I do like the ideas though. A greater range of mobility would add alot of colour to the game. But, it's not at the top of my list. |

Even though it would be fun, I don't find it necessary considering the following:
1. We will have cloaking modules. Which type is up to debate.
2. We will have more specialized scout suits that enable them to become practically invisible to the enemy's TACNET via reduced profiles and stuff like that. And this is without the cloaking modules.
That is all. |

Hubris. Excessive pride or self-confidence. (in Greek tragedy) Excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods, leading to nemesis.
Nemesis: The inescapable or implacable agent of someone's or something's downfall. A downfall caused by such an agent: "one risks nemesis by uttering such words".
arrogance: overbearing pride evidenced by a superior manner toward inferiors.
Arrogance does not necessarily lead to nemesis, while hubris is nothing but a foolish and consistent assumption which inevitably leads one to nemesis.

@ Ignoble Son Hey, I'm not saying you've a bad grasp of the english language. Just that you're using hubris or arrogance wrong. And excessive pride or self-confidence is also arrogance. I'd recommend that if you're going to use Encyclopedia that you do some further research beyond that. Even from that site's explanation, you've used it wrong.
Anyway, leaving grammar aside, Dust is great, and I love reading peoples ideas for the possible progression of the game. Sorry if I'm a bit of a douche about the language but at times it rubs me the wrong way. |

ahahahha. umad bro? You seem to have left a few things out of your copy-paste googling:
hu-+bris /-ê(h)yo-Pobris/ Noun Excessive pride or self-confidence. (in Greek tragedy) Excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods, leading to nemesis. Synonyms arrogance - hauteur - haughtiness - pride - insolence
But don't let facts get in the way of defending your hawesome ereet ideas. To be honest, I think being able to pop-lock-flip-spin-dash-roll in a scout suit that weighs 50 pounds or more is totally realistic. Especially the way that every untrained grunt wearing one (while carrying a sniper rifle, nanohive, drop uplink, and several modules) would be able to just parkour like a grandmaster!
Maybe they can add some samurai swords and a special ninja scout suit with horns and a giant maw so that you can play ninjabatmanscoutasaurus! |

A fine example of hubris. If you do end up killing me on the battlefield your enjoyment at my despair will most assuredly be imagined, as I very seldome pay attention to the names of those I kill or am killed by. But I am glad to have set a new goal for you. |

Oh, right. I totally missed that the physics of jumping are the same as the physics of parkour. Excuse me while I go do a monkey-spin on my kitchen table and wall run around my living room. I'm a pretty good jumper so it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't actually care if you're a freerunning game developer with $10 billion dollars and a Ph.D. in Awesome. This is the internet, child, so SS or STFU.
The fact is your idea is terrible, which is irrelevant, because you didn't come here for honest feedback - you came here thinking everyone would jump on your bandwagon and give you praise. When that didn't happen, you decided to lurk on the thread and be defensive, hoping that you could shout down anyone with even the least bit of apprehension about your half-formed thoughts.
You think that your behavior is somehow unique or unpredictable, but it isn't. Lurk in new pilot chat in Eve for three minutes and you'll see a hundred people just like you, coming up with a hundred ideas for why THIS game could me more like game X. The reality is that it isn't supposed to be like game X.
Inevitably these folks whine at CCP and say, "But I'm a CUSTOMER! LISTEN TO MEEEHHH NAO!"
And inevitably CCP responds with a phrase that I have seen so often it is committed to memory - "This game is not for everyone."
Yes, if a large number of players feel a feature would help, CCP will take it seriously and try to implement it in a way that doesn't hurt the game. Judging from the response you've gotten here today, that is not the case.
I'm now done wasting my time with you. HTFO, trollbait. |
