I've been trying to get people to join my corp for a good 3-4 weeks now.
Total number of members 7 Total number of active members 1(me)
Is it the name!??? I thought it was cool enough, at least better than "Imperfects". Everyone I get to join while in game turns out to be an inactive noob freeloader who just wants to be in any corp for the hell of it or they end up leaving in 2 days because hey let's face it no one wants to be in a group with only 1 other active person. If i could get active people to stay till our numbers reach 20ish I can see it becoming a lot easier to get members. I'm just having trouble getting to that point. I thought by doing good in pubs it would attract a lot of people to the corp, nope doesn't work that way. After or before games If people could just click on my name and click send corp application, I'd probably have a lot easier time getting members. I'm not the best of players but I've had a few impressive showings if I do say so myself, I went 7-0 once you know.
The corp recruitment forum is a joke no way anyone is gunna click on my thread when others have the prestigious Dev and GM tags on them with over 2000 views and a 100 replies
Please don't take my tears to feed your troll meter , I'm honestly about to quit and just join one of the big known corps out there, who wants me!? |

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I think it might take longer for people like us to get a good corp started since the big known corps now were probably around for way longer. I refuse to join one of the big corps for personal reasons. Join mine, we have 3 active members LMAO It's just hard to find good players that are dedicated and want to try to start a name for themselves. Joining a big known corp is easy if you're good. I know I can if i wanted to. |

you guys have decent corp names so thats a start. Though im not sure how many people are gonna get the dious ex reference. You gotta start by getting a small but consistent player base going. Even if you only have 8 people signing on a day, that can be enough to have people who want to stay. I want to emphasize that letting ANY of the early members have director/officer roles at first is a terrible idea. Wait a few months to see who seems to be most loyal and ect ect for that sort of thing.
Once you have a decent group going, try to organize corp matches against other small corps, win and youll be recognized by the other small corps.
Go into pub matches and stomp on people, this forces them to see your name at the end of each match. Believe me, its impressive to other people when they see someone go 25 and 1 in a match, and its the sort of thing that makes your name/ corp name stick in their mind.
Also try recruiting personally, if you see someone in an npc corp doing well in a pub match, mail them and see if there willing to join. Try to make sure everyone has mics though because if they dont it provides you with a lack of communication. |

It takes a lot of dedication to get a corp up and running and to keep it growing and active. You have to be proactive, start making connections in the game, start sending mail to others who arent in corps, have a good eye for talent etc etc. You also have to keep up relations of all the corp members, make sure to solve any issues players have with eachother or with the corp itself. Also doesn't hurt to play a lot so when those players are online, they have somebody to squad up with and to become buddies with. Oh and of course, make sure to use mics and communicate. A website is a nice touch as well, as it shows your dedication to the corp by taking the time to give a home to your members outside of the game.
It also doesn't hurt to be a darn good player too, typically if the leader isn't able to impress people in matches and/or doesn't provide a rock-solid leadership role, then the corp will not get very far. It takes a very specific personality to be a good leader.
I still remember when I first started playing this game, I would join these ambush matches and get absolutely steamrolled by this Hellstorm Merc guy, he became the bane of my existence and every time I saw him I would try as hard as I could to drop him (never could do it though). Long story short he recruited me, gave me tips, helped me learn the game mechanics, how to best utilize the skills for my role, etc etc. Now he goes by the name of DJINN Punisher, but he is still the same great player and leader that recruited me all those months ago.
Oh and I almost forgot, you better have some EVE connections if you are actually serious about a corp in this game. |

^This. The big corps didnt become big corps overnight, it came from months of playing with and against each other. Well that and previous clans from other FPS's coming over and basically building their structure here.
But for the most part corp function didnt come until very late in the closed beta at which players had found like minded players and they simply evolved into the named corps we have today.
Thats all you really have to do, is find players either in pubs or local(meh) and play together, go into the public channels of many of the corps and hang out with them. Post your corp in the corp recruitment forum or find other players in there.

Their secret is that a lot of them had a head start and started organising long before the corp feature was introduced and did a very good job with that since they have their own websites and have regular meetings. Plus making a group/clan big in any game that has been running for several months will be difficult. |

Never even heard of EVE until this game came out, I haven't even visited their site. I doubt any of those guys would take the time to help a nobody merc like me anyway.
Thanks for the tips guys, I gues I'll keep working on it. You have no idea how depressing it is to wake up another day and open your Corp recruitment thread only to see no new replies, even worse to open dust and find no new applications. I'll stick with it though, I'll find good players in game and try and invite them after matches. |

I'm not a leader on dust, but think of it this way- Make a corp with some good friends Try to POLITELY suggest the corp to decent people you meet- don't spam ads (quality over quantity) As you keep doing that, remind your corpmates to try to do the same Next thing you know, you have a decent sized build that doesn't take as much effort to expand
And for the record, by "decent people", I mean people with decent personalities- not necessarily good people; skill can easily come with practice, so getting to know noobs is usually a good strategy. |

How to get a corp off the ground.
1. Just join an existing corp. 2. Get to know and become friends with a dozen active players in said corp. 3. Convince those same players that leadership sucks and you guys could do a better job. 4. Leave that corp and steal said players, bringing them into YOUR newly formed corp.
You may think I'm kidding, but there are a number of existing corps out there that have done this. |

But to be honest, I co created one of the biggest and most powerful guilds in Atlantica online. Best way to get people to stay in community and people that genuinely want to help. In the beginning we started recruiting new players. We gave them food, armor, laughs and if you start with them young you can mold them in any way you please and they stay loyal because they don;t know any better...

Its really tough to try an build up a corp when you're the only one that's active. The best way to start is to get a couple of friends in there with you, even if its just 4 or 5 people...you need to have people be online at the same time. People join corps to play as a group, so if you don't have active people on...no one is going to stick around. The key is to start with people you know wont leave you due to inactivity and build from there, I know that's how OSG started off in the early MAG Beta days. By now we have multiple squads of people on nearly 24/7...but that takes a lot of time.
After that its just a matter of squading together and doing well. Nothing makes for a better corp advert than a squad of 4 people all from the same corp at the top of the battle result screen. Competence speaks volumes. Name generally isn't a problem unless it looks ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan of all caps corp names, to me it doesn't look very professional, but I don't think its causing you any problems.
If you have any specific questions you can either message me in-game or mail Rayne Dravon, my alt and CEO of my corp. |

Perseverance, being active, and providing incentive. I've had my corp since way back in closed beta with only 2 members and am up to 35 members today. Of course, I've had members come and go as that is expected. You have to show your members that being a apart of your corp is a benefit while also providing one or more incentives to retain as many members as you can. Hope this was helpful. Good luck with your endeavor. |

Most everyone else posting here has good advice that has probably pretty much covered anything MY stupid ass would be able to come up with to help you out, and more, so I will not burden you with my take on what you ought to do, but I feel like I really do have to take issue with part of your original post, Ruby. Perhaps you were not being entirely serious, and if so, I apologize.
That said, I'm not exactly a huge fan of the Imperfects (probably because of all the hurt in my butt when I run into them in a game) but I must respectfully disagree as to which name is better. "Imperfects" is, in my opinion, a very good corporation name. It's highly recognizable, and it evokes an amusing mental image.

Just a history lesson, if I can recall it correctly, for those of you who weren't around back in the day. Forgive me if I mess any of this up, I wasn't really paying attention when it all happened and caught a lot of it secondhand:
IN THE BEGINNING, the Imperfects were actually a splinter group of top players who left Betamax (Betamax used to be pretty much uncontested when it came to skilled players, with perhaps one or two exceptions) and started their own corp. Around the time of the period in DUST known as "THE TOURNAMENT", Imperfects had a huge merger with a small but talented corp known as Global Conflict. After the tournament, they of course had become so full of themselves that the majority of them devolved into giant quivering e-peens who felt they had the privilege of dictating how DUST should work, and started spamming the forums with how wrong everyone else was and how right they were on any game feature they didn't like. Now Imps are still trying to recover from that over-inflated e-peen fiasco, and some are still so full of themselves that their ego hasn't shrunk a bit since then.
After "THE TOURNAMENT", they then proceeded to start usurping talent from other corporations by lauding that they only let in elite players. This of course drew in a lot of players, because hey, if you were a good player, who would YOU rather play with? A bunch of blueberries half of whom suck? Or a group of good players who properly support each other on and off the battlefield? So a large chunk of the in game talent gravitated over to the Imp's, thus giving them a hand up in most situations
And most of you know the rest of the story from here. I'll leave the rest for another day. |

Hello kids Im mister Zitro and Im going to write a book on how I got to be a complete tool.
You see early on in the closed beta we had spawn points that were literally a 10 foot area.I would sit up in the mountains or on top of buildings shooting my Large missle turret at the spawns in my Sigarus which at the time had over 8k shp.Thats why I always talk about my 100 kill game like it was a massive achievement.I then put all my Sp into Proto suits and stacked damage mods.Later after I got owned by a scout repeatedly in a ambush game that was called Communication at the time by a full auto mod controller Codewish tac Douvolle. I decided I would do the same thing and act like it was my idea.I then complained repeatedly in the forums about the iron sights and muzzle rise.I told CCP that there game was dumb and called everyone scrubs. When I joined beta max I stole all there good specialized players. To win the tournament. After we got the officer dropsuits 4 high and 4 low it was simply a matter of stacking damage mods.I used simple parlor tricks exploited the imbalance of the BETA and now my newest recent endevor is to complain about armor tanks and QQ like a baby because I was so stupid that I thought they might be good.I was going to pown open beta noobs before they figure out that 4 Av nades would kill me and my tank and that Miltia forges were now on the market>you see because I am the smartest guy in the game.Iwould do that until I got enough sp to go Proto and do the cycle all over again.I also never run solo because I would get my ass kicked so I always have to squad with either Regnum or Proto man and How as back up.Point is I never run solo.

All the best advice has been given already. As a Small to Medium sized corp leader dating back to the MAG days, I've gone through the same problems and more. Running a Corp is not easy in the early stages and to be honest it doesn't get much easier the longer you are around or the more members you recruit. My advice, like most of the others, is Keep at it.
Recruiting is one of the tougher aspects of being CEO of a small corp and one thing you need to do is offer something that catches a recruits eye. This can be done through humor, personality, stats, or what ever works best for you.
You also need to be persistent. Get on local chat and invite people to your squads, Post on forums, and in general get your name out there. Once you get people get them to do the same. A dedicated recruiter is a good way to take a little weight off of your shoulders. The same goes with finding Officers to do thing in your place when you can't be there.
If you haven't already, make an open chat channel. Invite the people you group up with to it whether or not they are in a corp. This can start a contact chain and may help get the name out there. You may even get an alliance started.
Did I mention to be persistent?
Use a website or social media to have a place for people to see and interact with your Corp. There are plenty of free places to get this started.
You have already done one the most important parts, don't be afraid to ask questions. And don't be afraid to check out, contact, or even just google other corps that you see. Find out what they do and then adapt it to your own.
Again, keep your head up and keep at it. I wish you luck and hope to see your corp rise over the coming months. |
