Hey, guys. this is Dust in 2009. It looked pretty awesome. I think it is with the old engine though. (Brace yourself, recorded with a potato )

Anyone else noticed that in the beginning of the first video is the same place as the newest trailer showing the two guys take on a wave of bots? |

That is correct.
For those who don't know, Carbon is an in-house architecture/engine that CCP made for most of what goes on in Eve Online. Eve's avatar system is currently run by Carbon.
Unfortunately CCP had to use the Unreal Engine instead because Carbon was still relatively new and it was not certain how it would handle on a console when the architecture itself is so complex that a console might get cooked by using it. That and the Unreal Engine just so happens to be cheap, flexible, and easy to use. So for now, Carbon is an Eve Online feature only. |

Wtf. This looks better than what we've got at the moment. The music's kind of annoying, though. |

I personally have this idea that Dust 514 will be converted to the Carbon Engine the same way Eve was converted in Trinity
(although this would admittedly be one hell of a feat)...but we've seen it done before and who knows...ps4 could very well support this after they sample on unreal on ps3. Here's hoping, eh? :D |

unity, it's a muliplayer unity mock up, meant to give the design team a strong quicky prototyped starting point. That game does not look better, lol. There aren't even normal maps. |

This along with the original Debut trailer, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBzHOt0anIA
I got so hyped for this game back in 2009, even though I had no clue what EVE was or if this was even going to come to PS3. What I remember thinking is that the scale seemed so large. Here you had these huge maps that required vehicles to traverse, but once you go in the city it was really detailed layout-wise with garages and over passes and indoor buildings and such. Plus the roaming around in the giant Warbage also showed a sense of scale.
As of now I am waiting for that scale to arrive. Right now the the maps are mostly small and the buildings are nothing more than glorified hills with ladders (though there is the cool Skim Junction layout that has a really nicely designed interior at B). And while on the Warbage for one minute prior to the match or 10 if it's a corp battle I feel like I'm an animal inside a petting zoo caged in by these two foot ledges that I can't get over.
Yeah yeah, I know this is still beta and all that stuff will come SoonGäó but nothing more with wanting more as a fan. I like the core fundamental aspects of the game right now and definitely see how it can grow into something amazing, and it's actually pretty cool taking part in the infancy stages of what should become a gigantic game. |
