Will there be a telling advantage? Is there already?

for snipers maybe. It might help gun game but you adjust well enough with DS3 to be competitive with them imo. |

Mandatory for top tier? You really cant tell who's usig a KBM or a controller from what I can tell. I personally use the KBM, but that's only because the sensitivity option doesn't seem to work and ADS on a controller seems to be a bit too fast for me, considering I only use it for far range targets. |

It really depends on the player. If someone has been playing console shooters for a long time they'll probably do just fine with the controller. If you come from a PC background though, like me, you'll be far better off with the mouse. I can manage to use a shotgun with the controller ok, but can't stay on target for anything outside that range without a mouse. Many of the most well known players use the controller. |

I played KB/M for months, I done average enough, DS3 is much better in my opinion, it might be because I'm used to it or because it has the aim-assist which is useful for killing at short to medium ranges.
I can only see it being useful for Sniper or Laser Rifles where the improved accuracy of the KB/M is needed. |

Initially I was totally against KB/M even being allowed. I got shouted at, a lot, for that attitude. But I have always hated KB/M as an input device anyway. Since then I have played with several Mercs that use KB/M and it all comes down to what you are good with.
The mouse will let me fine tune a shot so I will use it for long, long range Sniper shots or, rarely, long range Large Rail Gun Turrets. For everything else I am faster, more comfortable and quicker with a controller. The Mercs I know that play with KB/M only just don't like controllers and never have. Their numbers don't prove to me that they are better gamers as such just better with the input devices of their choice.
Currently I have KB/M and DS3 connected via a USB hub. It allows me to type and use the mouse for those 1 in twenty Sniper shots that need it.
I don't know if CCP has somehow figured out how to keep some balance with them or bought a library that does the job but it doesn't seem to be that much of an advantage to me. That might all change when CCP allows remapping of input buttons on both devices.
Of course, all this is from an older player with decades of hating WASD and enjoying having a proper two joystick controller. Your mileage will vary. |

In summary, there is no discernible difference other than preference for KBM or DS3. Close thread? |

Actually I think you will find that the matchmaking systems tends to put you against players who use the same control method as you |

I've been switching back and forth and while there is a noticeable benefit to using Kb&M, it isn't big enough to warrant the setup hassle for me. (Obviously a moot point if you have a comfortable place to spread it out.)
It's also pretty situational. Scrambler Pistols practically require a mouse, while running and gunning with an SMG is almost better with the dualshock. Personally, I feel like I lose almost as much mobility with the keyboard as I gain accuracy with the mouse.
What you're comfortable with is far more important, and since Dust has so many other factors affecting your battlefield performance than other FPS games, I doubt it will ever become a requirement to stay competitive. |

For sniping, IMO, mouse would be better. When aiming at a distant target, the stick just seems like it moves a little jerky. Like you can get really close to having that little dot on someone's head, but the moment you barely tap the stick, you fly past the head.
Adjust the sensitivity and it takes forever to line up the shot and sometimes there just isn't time to work forever on aligning the shot because the other guy is trying to get the bead on you as well.
While I haven't played with it in DUST, I generally find a mouse works best for sniping in most games. BF3 for me would be the exception, I have no issues using a controller with that game in any circumstance.
I think that the sensitivity setting should have more micro adjustments, rather than this adjust of a factor of 10 crap. In general, I think that CCP still has some work to do in regards to controllers and how well they function in DUST. |

I'd use KBM but I am left handed with a mouse and couldn't figure out how to remap the keyboard. Can you? Did I miss something? |

Mouse has advantage in sniping (able to make more finit movements) ds3 probally has advantage in close melee combat (smoother turn and such instead of having to pick the mouse back up to keep from sliding off the mousepad) but in the end its really the players that decid which is better for them to much human element to even attempt a mouse versus joystick research |

There are subtle advantages, nothing game breaking. Overall a few small tweaks would fix mostly everything. |

Switching to KBM really helped my shotgun accuracy and I've been playing console shooters for years.
So me, I like it. |

DS3 gives one a more refined control over move and maneuver. KB is all or nothing when it comes to move and maneuver as it has no gradient control.
Mouse gives precision control in facing and aiming. DS3 has this precision as well if one has had enough practice. The mouse is also limited to keep it from turning faster than what's possible with the DS3.
So based on mastery of both control types, DS3 should actually be better.
In my case, I can't seem to get the fine control with the right stick that I can with the mouse. But then the majority of the shooters I've played have been PC based with M/KB.
In the end, it comes down to personal preference and skills on the controller type. |
