The final system that we've heard of will be a roll over system, judging from what we've been told.
However, if this happens, then we have another dilemma. Do we continue to have this soft cap of 1WP=1SP up to 1000? Do we drop it and return to the hard cap? Soft cap of 50? We will have the weekly rollover, but in order to keep players playing after we hit the cap, I'm beginning to think some sort of WP=SP needs to continue.
Perhaps 1.5 WP = 1 SP?
2 WP = 1 SP?
3?
4?
We DO need to give people a reason to keep playing after they cap out, but we can't let it become unreasonably tilted towards one audience or the other.
On another angle, I DO think you should get more SP for playing Skirmish. There DOES need to be some justification for spending extra time in a match. The only way to do this without hurting the cap that I can see is to separate the SP calculation for time spent in the match away from the rest of your SP calculation and add the time based SP to your total SP AFTER all other SP are calculated for the match. That way you can get your 1000 SP cap, plus your time based SP added to that.
For example: Say you earned 320 SP for being in a match for a long time. You would get 1320 SP instead of just your 1000 SP since it was added in at the end instead of being part of the initial SP calculation.
This way you are compensated for longer play times in longer matches. It might also help if a time based SP multiplier kicks in after a set amount of time has gone by (say 10-15 minutes for example), that way you get more SP for those long haul matches while still keeping the cap limited. Long running ambushes would get a bonus for the last couple minutes, and skirmish players would be making SP for hanging in for those long matches. Noc Tempre finally convinced me there needs to be SOMETHING, and just letting 1WP=1SP go through isn't the right way to do it.
Anyway, I've tossed enough ideas around.

Interesting ideas!
Cap-wise, why not still give it out at a diminished rate once a certain cap has been reached? Instead of (ex.) 1wp - 1sp, it goes down to .50. Why penalize people for playing the game and doing it ALOT..? |

1WP should always result in a fixed ratio to SP (1 to 1 is fine as a minimum acceptable). Everything else is gravy IMO |

If some no lifer wants to grind away with the soft cap of 1000-1500 SP (No booster/ booster) to get a couple hundred SP more than me, I don't see any hurt in it. He/she has put in the time and actual effort to get 1000+ WP per game once the cap is reached, they can have their reward for it. It's not excessive, and still allows some advancement for their troubles. After 3 months it won't matter very much anyway because most of us (except the fresh starters) will have the core skills fully maxed out anyway and will be around half way towards specializing. It will make for even more interesting battles having a few players who are slightly ahead, giving the working man/woman something to look forward to. |

The soft cap should be eliminated in favor of a time based cap (acceptable) or a fixed ratio cap (ideal). |

1WP = 1SP is a ratio cap.
1000 SP/match changed to 250 SP/minute (earned at a rate of 1 SP = 1WP) is a time based cap. |

So you are suggesting perhaps a passive battle SP instead of gaining SP based on your merits in battle? Or did I misunderstand? |

I understand 1wp= 1sp but this option has lost, play for fun noc for now, i prefer skirmish and i still play skirmish |

honestly the current system is satisfactory
soft cap thats not insignificant, the grinders will accumulate ample sp yet things wont get out of hand vs casual gamers.
i DO agree some balance needs to be in place for skirmish. perhaps 2500 sp cap or something to compensate for the extra time a match takes.
aside from that... more sp in the cap of course but i also understand the reasoning as it is |

Would it be a bad or good idea to have the rewards shift to ISK after the cap is reached? Or perhaps have an adjustable slider to allocate between skill and ISK return rate? Thoughts? |

The Dust player community has pretty much rejected a capless active SP system out of hand. I personally believe there's also something fundamentally broken about the idea of passive SP in a free-to-play game.
As for what the ultimate system should be, I think it is pretty simple.
You earn one "potential SP" every 1.3 seconds, constantly. You can't spend these PSP though. You can, however, convert them into "actual SP" using war points in the same way you currently earn active SP.
This would act as a daily cap for people who play every day, and a weekly cap for people who play only at the week-end. Once you hit your cap, you can still get SP at a rate of 1 every 1.3 seconds, or 770 SP for a 10 minute battle.
You can increase these numbers with boosters, of course.
