I've deleted some trolling posts from this thread. That feels so inceptiony to me.
Anyway, if you feel like a post violates the forum rules, please report it using the flag button on the top of every post. This will report the post to myself or one of the other forum moderators and we'll come investigate and, if deemed necessary, delete/edit the post and issue a warning/ban.
From moderating the EVE Forums for the past four months with some other Community bros, I've found the best way to keep the forums civil is to make sure posts are moderated swiftly, to issue warnings and bans when justified, and to generally be vigilant. Taking action against someone's game account is an option for extreme or gross repeated violations, particularly if someone is circumventing forum bans or the like. This is generally a last resort, however.
As for the amount of time it takes away from us, well... I'm not a programmer. Moderating the forums doesn't prevent me from fixing bugs or making changes, because unless they really need the game to say "Hello world", I don't think I could provide much help there. |

And if you thank thr trolling here is bad go check out the DCOU PS3 forum why is it that because things are bad somewhere else thats a good reason for them to be bad here? How is that a logical way of solving problems? "well that house over there is on fire so yeah, don't worry about it" And I dont care about trolling, like I said I care about how CCP reacts to violations of its forum rules and the punishments it uses.
well personally Id rather be in the house NOT on fire, but that may just be me.
And its a very logical way of solving problems, its opening your eyes to a worse world so the current one seems less bad therefore insta problem solved.

But in there lies the problem, As the forums grow in size exponentially as the game picks up speed (hopefully) The amount of threads per day are going to continue to increase. It will become harder and harder to moderate each individual thread (baring me not knowing how much staff CCP will throw at it to match larger forum sizes) Setting the bar for conduct high goes a long way to preventative maintenance. I always have found the the best enforcements are the ones that enforce themselves, people tend to tread more lightly when things hit a little closer to home, everyone understands loss. At the end of the day people are here for the game not the forums so thats where CCP has the most pull in how someone will conduct themselves.
I get moderating the forums does not affect the fixing of bugs directly, however I am sure you have other pressing duties to perform such as posting relevant information to peoples forum requests, maybe organizing information from the forums for Dev staff, and other communication related tasks that are also important. I am sure it probably does in some way suck time away from you can devote to other productive tasks.
All I was suggesting that a different sort of tool might have been more effective in making the forums a little more self regulating among those who seem to need more regulating :P
I was hoping we could get some mid ground punishments that could be between warnings/bans like a good -1000 sp for someone when they step out of bounds for the 2nd time in the second day and there you are again moderating the same people you just moderated earlier that day. Nothing makes people stop speeding like a good fine. |

wrong it is a logical fallacy and a well known one at that. Its known as a false equivalence argument.
It works like this.. Your car is stolen. Horrible. LetGÇÖs say, for the sake of argument ,it was done by a GÇ£heavyGÇ¥ After being arrested, for that horrible heavy wants to try to defend themselves and their actions by saying, scouts have stolen it too! would not be considered a remotely plausible defense. In fact, it would and should offend even more.
Why? Deep down we know crimes and wrongdoing are an individual offense, measured on an individual basis and their own merits. Crimes and offenses are not an infringement of public sensibilities that can be softened through a sense of establishing balance. They are a standard to be upheld.

they wont do that unless they have a reason to. currently people can just make more accounts and flood the forums with anything they want. They should limit most of the forums to people with so many in game hours. that way people cannot just spam with alt accounts. |

Forum offenses must be dealt with a forum punishment, unless its an extreme case. Its far to lenient a approach thus far. The forums are a important part of the beta as we help CCP to shape the game. Thus they need to proceed in a orderly professional manner. As such they have been lacking I feel we could maintain discipline and invoke a more business like work ethic on the forums with cross dust punishments. I also think a dust weekend game play ban would also deter forum deviants or a day long game play ban.
This is exactly what i was talking about earlier everyone on eve and dust acts like this isn't a game but the most serious thing ever were not working on an atom bomb were working on a game that is maint to be enjoyed, experienced, and moved on from or continued to be played.
I hope you end up being banned mainly because this isnt feedback/ideas this is a complaint one mans complaint to change something he has no power over. |

I highly doubt that. plenty of forums online have effective rules and they have good turnaround and traffic. This is not 4 chan. Feel free to make a 4 chan dust 514. |

IMO the current system is fine i'm failing to see how it's not enough. If people are going to troll, they will troll. you can lay down all the rules you want but this fact will never change. it's the ENFORCEMENT of the rules that matter and frankly, that's more to do with the community. Mods and Devs are limited in number, so they can't exactly monitor every single post. that is where the report button comes into play. |

This sounds like job security to me
You could always add things like dislikes and other features to help the community discourage the behavior. Having some simple features carry over to the game like being muted and not able to chat / voice coms for a period of time should be plenty to discourage the behavior. The devs have better things to code right now though. |

I would like a hello world when I log in. It would make me feel special.
Oh and LOL at this whole topic. This forum is more closely moderated and has less trolling/hate then many other forums. MAG forums was way more epic. When there is no trolling on these forums then they are a bore to read. |

TERMINALANCE wrote:The amount of posts violating forum rules for conduct is getting worse every week. Its sicking seeing all the extra work devs and moderators have to to cleaning up the forums from people choosing to violate the rules.
Those people hurt everyone as that is time that could have been used to improve the forums themselfs or respond to issues or other work CCP needs to do, It takes man hours away from other tasks.
CCP should give harsher punishments right off the first offense and should slap people with week long bans or take away SP for players acting in a inappropriate manner. If you hit players where it hurt them they would be allot more choosy with their words.
The players doing this know who they are and certainly are undeterred by being banned from the forums for what they see as a badge of honor and a slap on the wrist.
Take away some SP when they shoot their mouths off and you will see a far more sunny, pleasant and hard working forums.
I guarantee it.
I think 40k sp away from your cap for serious offenses and personal attacks would be a good start.
Disagree. If someone breaks the rules in the forums they should be banned from the forums. In game attitude has nothing to do with forum attitude. |

If the OP is actually concerned about the forums/discussions why have i not seen threads on real topics started by him? I haven't seen any, has anyone else? So you read the forums and hate what you see. BFD. I support moderation and punishment for forum offenses. Your being overly sensative about this when I can't even find threads you where you were trolled.
Sorry but this is just a pointless anti troll rant and I'm here to say put up or HTFU. CCP doesn't pay people to test this game so if they want feedback and bug reports they can't go all **** on the community like you want. Trust me we have all played games where the moderators lock down the forums. What happend? the forums died. Good luck getting feedback then.
