I'm more or less reporting this problem on behalf of my brother as he is quickly losing interest in this game because of this glitch. The glitch that he is having is that when he is hacking a terminal (turret, spawn, silo, supply depot, w/e) the hacking counter will glitch and reset itself back to 0. This is a problem in that it is pretty much impossible for him to solo hack anything and usually when other players are involved he is left with a hack assist at best (+25 or +12 points), even if he had the thing 2/3 hacked and someone assist late. If other players are involved it might not reset the hacking back to 0 but down to half.
Personally I have only experienced this problem a few times on my playstation, but no where near as often as him. I do often observe in the middle of my hacking the hacking dial will flutter on me but usually does not reset. Mind you in all of this we are talking about, we are stationary at the terminals staring directly at the node so its not that we are moving away or turning away. I have had a few times where I get a hacking assist for something I was hacking long before I was assisted, and a few times I have observed when hacking the counter dropped to half of what I was at.
Updated conclusion after test:
It is not lag. My brother's ps3 is plugged into the modem and yet my ps3 is using wireless connection to the same modem through a router. He is encountering this problem constantly, but I have only a handful of times.
It is not the remote because it made no difference if it was plugged in or not. Even better is I traded remotes with my brother. He continued to have the problem with my remote that had no problems before, and I still had no problems when using his previous remote.
It is not limited to the remote. He tried using mouse and keyboard and still encountered this hacking glitch.
It is getting worse and extending to zooming with the sniper and charging the forge gun, pretty much making this unplayable for my brother now. |

How old are your controllers?
If they are aged this might be an indicator that they are too aged for DUST. My experience is that DUST is particularly sensitive to marginal controllers so if try it with the newest of your controllers*.
If you have multiple controllers don't plug the second one it to charge as this definitely causes a problem which is being looked into.
*The PS3 DS3 and earlier controllers have an inner cable that is not in a connector. It is held in place by the looping of the cable and two posts that mate with the contacts on the board and the cable. It is cheap beyond measure and I saw one that had one of the hole torn. Hard to say if it connected correctly or not but it was not repairable. |

I had this problem for a while but it was my controller failing on me. I have never had the hack reset but it does flutter about. |

Yeah just hold the action button down harder. It's not the games fault rather, your controllers:P |

I've had this problem too, it's the not the controller. I reported this problem a couple of weeks back and the replies to my post seemed to think it was due to lag. |

I am having the same problem. It is not my controller, I just bought a new one on Saturday, Feb 9. My old controller had D-Pad issues which is typical of old and worn PS3 units.
The problem is that the controller is resetting every few seconds. It does not happen in any other game. This is making any action that requires extended button holding an impossibility. Sprinting, sniping, charging the forge gun, hacking and using the repair tool are all affected. It is making the game unplayable.
Edit: plugging the controller in seems to help, but doing that for long periods ruins the battery life. Again, this problem is exclusive to DUST and if the developers want to make a successful game they need to do something. |

For me, this problem seems to vary most with location. Wireless controllers aren't perfect. A bit of forgiveness on the input here could go a long way. |

It is hard to tell if ti actually is the controller or not. He is using a brand new controler that came with the new ps3 he bought. I on the other hand am using an old controller that is somewhat jacked up (apparently I twist the remote while I play which caused all sorts of miss ques in CoD), and yet I do not have this problem.
So the messed up thing is that he switched to an older remote and the hacking problem may still occur, it doesn't occur as often as it did. What is even more messed up is that I have released the hacking button mid hack before and repressed it to resume hacking where I had left off (the dial faded and came back).
I had another issue where the hack gauge filled up all the way and stayed full a few moments but did not change ownership. |

I have never something like this happened to me. I know that when someone form enemy team is using turret or supply depot that you are trying to hack it cancel your hacking progress. |

Yea it is not that kind of deal. If someone is on the turret you won't be able to hack it in the first place. Something like an objective site (A,B,C,D,E) wouldn't be accessed like a turret or depot, but still will reset the hack on him. The time where I had my hack reset down to half was also on an objective site.
On a side note there is a lame bug in the forums here where when you hit post it doesn't actually post anything and brings up the blank window or w/e quote you had. You can click on the draft to recover what you had typed, unless ofcourse it saves a draft on the blank screen after you hit post...

I've had this same problem since day 1. Some matches it's perfectly fine and some it's so bad that I can't hack anything at all, can't cook grenades, or use my Forge Gun. It really ruins the experience. I have one of the old clunky PS3s and the controller that came with it.
No other games I've played on my PS3 have had any issues thus far.
Playing with the controller plugged in is not an option because the cable is roughly 2 inches long. I guess I'll have to try picking up a new controller. |

You should get yourself a 10 foot usb extension cord. It is very nifty.
Anyways it isn't a controller problem because I traded remotes with my brother. His problem still persist, and infact has actually spread to his zoom just like you are saying. I really hope it isnt the wireless receptor in the ps3 itself because he is playing on a brand new playstation (less than a month old).

It's nice to find a post like this cause I've been having this problem myself.
I'm personally inclined to think it's a genuine bug. When I first started playing DUST, I had no problems performing any held button actions (hacking, sniping, charging etc.) I highly doubt that in the two or three weeks that I've been playing were sufficient enough to screw over my controller to the point where there's some wear in the receptivity. Another indicator that it's not my controllers is that my brother plays CoD regularly ... he has no problem with held button actions.
I don't buy into that this problem is attributed to lag. If it is a lag, then why is is I can see an approaching red dot with no jumps in his movement towards me (high indication of a lag) and yet my hack counter still jumps around? If suddenly everything got choppy while I was hacking, then I'd believe it's a lag ... but no. The game runs perfectly fine before, during, and after my hack and only the counter goes all wonky. |

Give that remote a gold old fashion drop test. Then open her up and give her a cleaning use isopropyl alcohol and some Q-tips Air dry and use compressed air to get the rest. |

I really wish this issue would get some kind of recognition. This problem still persist as of this update. It is totally destroying this games play-ability as hacking, charging, and zooming do not work. This issue is a bug and is not related to our systems or remotes as it affects keyboards, but affects 1 ps3 but not another with same remotes. |

The first gen PS3 is actually the better machine. It's the one Sony originally developed. The rest were made after cutting corners, features, and quality to bring down the price. |

Yep, the 60gb was the machine. I'm on my 7th PS3 now. I could mess about with the 60gb all day, no problems. Jailbreak anything other and the slightest error in say FTP and bricked. There's a lot more that just the extra USB ports and card readers removed from the newer models. Sony really messed up with the different SKU's. and one SKD.. No more universal save as...... |

One is to hide a hacking progress indicator tricking you into releasing O button on your codebreaker. This aborts the hacking process (still running in the background) and forces you to repeat. If you are still alive Relax. Close your eyes. Empty your mind. Keep your O button depressed. Breathe in. Breath out. Continue until hacking is done. Open your eyes. Now GO! GO! GO!

I had never once have this glitch happen to me till the other day I normally run logi suits but I have been trying scouts with DU and speed mods lately and everytime it has happened to me since I have been wearing a scout suit so its either something to do with your suit or scout suits bring me bad luck. |
