I can't sit down for a dust session without a tasty beverage. It can take the edge off a match where your blueberries just aren't helping things.
And it's delicious.
I'm a scotch fan myself, preferring the Highland single malts - particularly anything by Balvenie.
I just picked up a bottle of the Doublewood 17 year...fantastic, on the pricey side.
Also very nice is the Springbank 18, which is out of Campbeltown, and probably my second favorite.
Anybody have any ones they love that aren't peaty? And if not scotch, what do you drink to ease the pain of the BB who hops in your LAV and starts shooing at rail gun installations? |

For me it's definitely a good beer. I usually go for local Chicago beers like Goose Island (though it's national now), Three Floyds (technically Indiana but whatever), Revolution, Half Acre, etc. I also like Lagunitas, Rogue, Fat Tire, Blue Moon, Sam Adams and a bunch of others. |

I grew up a little south of Boston. I don't drink a ton of beer but I do love me some Sam Adams. The sell a cool 12 pack right now, the Winter Thaw pack, a nice mix of their seasonal brews....all great! |

Nice, right now I've got some of their winter beers in the fridge (noble pils, winter lager, white christmas, and the whitewater ipa). I've been neglecting them a bit, but I'll have to open one next time i'm playing Dust. |

HOMEBREW!! I've also been known to drink lots rum, preferably from the freezer but it could be over ice ( not too much, don't wanna water it down). Cider (farmhouse style) has to be one of my all time favs though, it's amazing what you can do with just apples and yeast. |

Rum and Coke.
Often Malibu and Coke, but sometimes Captain and Coke.
Of course, I rarely pass up the Porto or Cider if proffered. |

^this as well As I've gotten older, I've gone away from the sweeter, cheaper "hangover boozes", but captain I can always enjoy. The private stock too, gooooood! I currently live up in Washington state, where the liquor prices are awful. I'm down in Vegas this weekend, enjoying buying captain for 14 bucks a bottle, and no tax at the Nellis air force exchange! I pay 27 bucks for that in WA.
I do like a good cider too. I like the less sweet stuff, Strongbow is probably my favorite so far.
I've dabbled in the homebrew, once for beer, which I messed up and it came out like a watered down Icehouse (even possible?). Once for wine as well which came out better, but still no better than a bottle of two buck chuck. |

Home distillation is quite illegal in the states, from what I hear Aussies and others have much more lax tax laws so no sharing from me because that would be against the law! |

It's only illegal to distribute. It's definitely legal to produce, but not legal to sell without permits. |

In most states, you can brew beer, or make wine, ciders, and mead for private consumption. Distillation (hard alcohol) is illegal without a permit just about everywhere as far as I know. |

Distillation =/= homebrewing, BIG difference, though you can 'still a bad batch of beer (or anything). Ice distillation might be legal (depending on locale) if you keep it within 1% of the original volume. |

My everyday drinker is the Balvenie Doublewood 12yr. And I've found anything by balvenie to be great so far, so I have been slowly building my collection. I got a bottle of the Portwood 21 year before Christmas. Really good but I did a blind taste test of that and about 15 other scotches, the one I liked best was the balvenie 15 single barrel. Then the Springbank 18, then the Portwood. But honestly they were tough choices, could have gone either way!
I also like the balvenie Caribbean cask, try that if you can find it. It's a 14 year and they finish the maturation in rum casks. This is making me thirsty. Some of my other favorites are Dalwhinnie 15 and Glenlivet 18.
I don't like peaty stuff, so I avoid the laphroaigs and lagavulins, and most stuff from around that area. I also don't like Macallan, I think it's too spicy and overpriced. |

Oh another non-scotch spirit I've been telling all my friends about is the Crown Royal Maple Finished, only runs about 25 bucks, smells sweet like maple syrup, but the taste is not overly sweet. Goes good on rocks, or mixed with just about anything.
I do like cigars as well, in my travels I've had the chance to pick up a Cuban or two. They kick you in the ass, but I think I prefer Dominican stogies over the Cubans. I really like the Ashton VSG, they always cost a lot in stores but sometimes you can get a good deal online. I like the macanudo gold label as well and if I ever want something different I go with the acid kuba kuba. |

A great reason to homebrew. There are a lot of clone recipes( pun intended ) that are available online that will get you close at a fraction ($.50-$.75) a bottle. The main problem is it takes precious video game time, but it could be something to do after you cap for the week . |

Someone turned me onto a rum called Flor de Cana a few years ago which I really enjoy, although I haven't seen it here in WA, I had no problem finding it in Pensacola. I like the one called Pyrat. It's not expensive but to me tastes like it should be.
I like tequilas as well, but moreso the anejos that you can sip on, they taste more like scotch to me than anything. The silvers that go in margaritas, I don't like shooting them. Don Julio anejo is pretty good, I usually hate anything Cuervo, but their familily reserve anejo is F'ing good! My favorite ever is the Casa Noble anejo. Only ever seen it at a bar in San Diego.
There's a homebrew store downtown where I live, I might have to get back into it again. It was fun, maybe this time I won't F it up. Do you use a local store or buy online? |
