Hello everyone.
First off: I have plenty of FPS experience on the PS3, especially on BF3 and consider myself a player with a very solid aim and good situational awareness.
I have been playing Dust for almost 3 weeks now and I have to say that I-¦m fully enjoying it, despite the odd bug or two.
After maxing out on my sp pretty much every day my assault character is now running the Assault Type II with two complex shield enhancers on the high power module slots. As for low power modules I-¦m running armor plating and shield recharge enhancer or whatever the 10% reduction on recharge delay module is called.
As for weapons I-¦m running either the GEK 38 or the GLU 5 depending on the map. No damage mods obviously, but skilled assault rifles to lvl 3 etc.
Now here is what confuses me: I frequently get dunked on in the following situations: 1 on 1 (assault v assault), I fire the first 2-3 bullets, I strafe like crazy,my aim is dead on...
BUT the other guy just eats through my 300&something shields and 175 armour with his Milita assault rifle and survives me with 2 or three armour points. every time this happened my opponent showed up as having the standard 170 shield and 125 armour or whatever the "Enforcer" suits have.
When I decide to revert back to my starter gear after I lost 3-4 advanced suits in a match I seem to be doing as good and sometimes even better than in my advanced gear.
Now my question is: what the hell is going on ?

Could be bad hit detection for you.
Could be that he headshotted you several times, multiplying the damage.
Could be the fact that armor makes you slower (slower strafe speed - easier for him to keep his reticule on you).
Maybe just bad luck on your side in terms of lag. |

Try replacing the armor plating with Kinetic thingy that increases your speed - then play a few games simply to get used to it... |

Yup, I encounter this all the time. I could be running a type-II suit with Gek, 2 complex damage mods, weaponry to level 5, and proficiency at lvl 2. Yet somehow get ganked instantly by somebody using a militia AR even though I had the upper hand, better aim, and overall advantage.
I blame weapon flattening on this one, as even if i run my most garbage militia crap, I almost always do better than I do with my top-end gear.
Pretty sure CCP has given much more of an advantage to starter stuff than we were led to believe. I find it hard to believe I can own just as well, sometimes better, on a alt with 100% militia frontline, vs my main which is 100% speced into AR with pretty good suits, 2+ million in skills, and modules to boot. |

could also be that individual has skilled and fit for higher dps. you have to find the right balance of damage and defense that works for your play style.
sounds like you need to futher skill assault rifle past level 3 since i have found you will get much better hit accuracy past level 3 and it may be that your opponent has skilled higher in this area and is therefore getting more bullets to target faster than you are. |

An enforcer starter fit with militia could have hidden buffs. They could have few levels ar proficiency adding damage bonus, maxed weaponry and added complex damage mods. The militia does same damage as standard ar, just has worse fitting and smaller clip.
skill bonus can add more to damage then upgrading the gun, although once you have both it is higher still of course. |

First of all thanks to all the posters above.
@ Charlesnette: I realise that damage mods will shift the balance in certain situations and that my complex shields may draw the shorter straw. If this was a "now and then" event when I get insta-dunked by somebody with the low gear & shield/armour points I described above then I would most definitely suspect complex damage mods to be behind this. If however in one match this happens 4 to 5 times and with 4 different opponents, then I find it hard to believe that every single one was running said damage mods. I-¦m not usually easily frustrated, especially when it comes to gaming, but by now I have given up on the idea that all of these guys who I get my one on one encounters with are running advanced damage mods on their milita gear.
I have experimented with damage mods myself (just the lowest tier though) and I didn-¦t find they were worth the reduction in defensive ability.

This is exactly how I feel. Good to know that I-¦m not the only one. I think I might just make an alt and play that one with only the milita gear and then compare the K/D and sp per match after two weeks.

it-¦s a 3% reduction in speed and I didn-¦t use it until recently when I started getting insta-dunked by what appears to be standard gear ;) I might try the kinetic thingy and report back with results in the following days :) |

Is your weaponry skill maxed? If not, then his might be, giving him a damage bonus, which might be even further exacerbated by him having higher level AR operation/proficiency, giving him greater accuracy and damage. Combined with your slower strafe speed this may make it easier for him to hit you and deal more damage.
This is why I haven't specced into higher level gear yet, and won't until I get most of the core skills that max out my survivability/damage/accuracy levelled up significantly. |

The diffrence with dust & bf3 is that if you are accustomed to bf3 damage, bodyshots kills with a very short burst of controlled fire and awareness is often much better then precise aim, if you got a drop on a squad there you can take out all 4 before 1 can turn around. In dust after killing 1 or 2 the rest will turn around while your reloading your weapons.
In dust precise aim is better then awareness, though both combined rule also being able to asses danger level of opponents, example: you are shooting someone at range and someone pops nearby from a corner stop shooting at the almost dead guy and swap target to the closest guy, swap again if someone more dangerous pops up or you asses his aiming skills are too poor to take you out.
always take out the most dangerous opponent first.

Those extra shields & armor only protect you for 0.1-0.3's when a burst out of a militia rifle is 372 damage per second without skills, if they have worked up skills instead of suits the damage will be higher so your advanced suit if all his bullets hit lasts 1 second tops. Now if all those bullets hit your head you are done in about 0.5s

Its hard to tell if you have better aim if you are lying on the floor dying, i doubt that part to be true.
I can chew trough 3 militia fit guys with the standard Assault Rifle aiming at me, no damage mods or skills to enhance my damage before they take down my shields and i have 398 shields on my Type-II.
When you loose chunks of health, they are hitting your head, if they are not loosing chunks of health you are not hitting their head.
Headshots win any battle regardless if he was naked, militia fit or running advanced suits.
Sounds like an aiming issue and or putting too much stock on your advanced suit to keep you alive.

Massive quote fail earlier Let-¦s try this again.I agree with you when it comes to attacking squads of enemies. Most dangerous opponent first.
I am well aware of the headshot multiplier and I strive to adjust my aim accordingly . I-¦m not saying that my aim is perfect 100% of the time (e.g. when my monkey decides to chuck her empty can of peanuts at me; or I get surprised by the reds) but I know when I-¦m on target and when I-¦m not. The situations I-¦m referring to here are 1 on 1 encounters on equal ground, with me attacking first and THEN getting dunked with "inferior" gear. I am fully aware that in situations where I get jumped or mess up my aim I will lose to any kind of gear if the opponent has mad headshot skillZ (yes, with a Z). Then again I find myself dying as quickly in my militia suit as I die in my assault II.
Maybe the point I was trying to make is that personally I don-¦t feel like running the more expensive and advanced gear gives me an edge over the reds who are running standard militia gear. Just felt like probing around the forums and seeing if anyone else shares my opinion.
I guess I should start skilling towards damage amplifiers :) |

1. SP, someone with alot of SP in weaponry and his weapon of choice will do alot of damage
2. hit detection the hit detection is still a mess. it is alot better than in the early closed beta versions but sometimes the hits are still not registering. non registering hits are rare but they happen |

I'm enjoying how they have balanced that armor/modules/weapons right now. A militia gun can kill me if I'm stupid or if they hit me in the flank while I'm engaged in combat.
The advantage from modules is enough to counter the weapon mods if you do it right. The trick is to keep balancing your loadout so you keep taking and dishing out the same damage as if it were militia vs. milita (even fight). |

if you make an alt with just militia gear you will have a lot less kills. Miltiia gear levels up too you know. |

It's bad hit detection and lag.
I've unloaded entire HMG clips into ppl at close range and they lose only 50% shields turn around and instantly kill me. Othertimes at max range of the HMG a guy goes down in 2 seconds.
It just makes no sense. |

You'd be surprised how many times your 1x1 is not really a 1x1. I get the jump on dudes engaged in a 1x1 frequently. To be honest I do just as well in militia gear too, but this is my first FPS rodeo. One of my strategies is to spawn militia first, and swap to something better once I get a sense for how the match is playing out. On the Jagged Peak map, militia all the way. |

imho complex extenders only worth it on proto lvl suits because of the CPU they eat |

It only takes around 20 bullets to down a type II and less for a std militia suit, its all about who gets the most bullets on target, if your losing in a 1v1 maybe they are strafing less and aiming down scope getting every bullet on target, everyone dies quick to someone that can ADS well. |

He most likely has higher skills in Ar maybe even proficiency, or damage mods, weaponry at lvl 5.
I run complex damage mods and or complex shield extend on high side. tier 3 Armor rep and speed mod, on type II, if u dont have the cpu or pg u need to spec into them. I worked on defense first this build and its starting to pay off. Worth a try for you but as others have said u need to find the combo that fits your play style. Stay with a squad helps so much. This game will kill you if u run solo on most battles. Ps this is one of my alts...Opps didn't notice..YDA76 strikes again. |
