*Edit - After consideration, I think the below attributes should be added to all weapons but lessen as you skill up to the better ones. At the moment we have all weapon tiers just as easy to use irrelevant of the investment, the only difference being different damage or clip size (in most cases). The weapon tiers should show more visible progression than that. Take for instance spending a couple of hundred dollars on a cruddy AK47 - the thing will kick like hell and probably jam once a clip. If you instead spend thousands on a state of the art LR300, you're going to get something with a lot less kick and much more accuracy but the damage is actually not going to be all that disimilar. Edit over*
Now we all know nobody good likes militia stuff because it devalues the whole point of the SP and ISK systems. Okay so they all have reduced clip sizes but this really doesn't matter because you can still do the same amount of damage if you know how to use them. The real problem is that militia should be stuff that you only use as a last resort, when you've totally run out of ISK but so many people still run militia even when they're all skilled up, so they can earn lots and spend nothing. This should really not be a viable option and definitely should not be as deadly as it is.
Either - militia items of any kind should be unavailable to use after hitting 1.5mil SP or...
Make militia weapons much harder to use: AR, pistol and SMG kick should be enormous. Snipers should have massive sway. Swarms should lose their lock after firing really easily. Forge guns should shake or something when charging to make it harder to aim with. Shotguns should take ages to c.ock after each shot. Grenades should have a tiny splash radius and/or throw range.
Erm, what other militia weapons are there? Open to suggestions. |

would result in new players going "weapon physics suck ass, guns are useless, move on to something less stupid for my game fix."
less than 5% of all players use the forums as a conservative estimate. I see names every day that have not graced us with their presence. Most of them in fact. So the forums are not a good information source for new players. |

Well all militia gear is cpu/pg hungry and when all the gear is balanced and so on. It will matter. You can ask any eve-player that fittings mean the world. If you have equally balanced players the one with +2% will win (ok, it doesn't work like that, but in theory).
Realistically speaking there is no way ANYONE would take utter crap into the battlefield... Eve itself has always been about small things adding up. +2%, +3% and so on.
The truth is that we haven't even began to see the "good players" yet. Maxed out skills and so on. When you get all the skills and better weapons we are talking about +20-30% firepower and similar shield/armor...so they kill you 30% faster and can withstand punishment 30% more...(even more when you think about better recharge, repair, armor amount...). THAT'S when you will notice that militia gear sucks :) We aren't just there yet...at the moment the changes are rather small. |

Lol no, i love the guys that fit militia gear they die in less then a second, i am talking about people that go 0/7 on matches, if they run advanced suits they will die in just over a second netting a major loss of funds on each game and still run the same amount of deaths +-.
That's something they cannot sustain at their skill level so they save their money for important matches or they might have tried it and are now flat broke running militia fits again.
Every match there are 5-8 people who still make profit, everyone else looses their money on the game.
Militia Fits r fine.
Edit: i still get killed by militia fits sometimes, so that really means they are ok balance wise. |

A militia nerf is a new player nerf, not good. They need help not nerfs. |

Granted new players can only use militia stuff but all too often they end up staying with militia gear because there really isn't that much difference between it and standard gear. If they saw visible differences, they would realise that speccing up is worth it and try harder to get to better weapons earlier, especially if it was made clear that the militia gear is substantially harder to use instead of the current situation where it's pretty much the same.
Other people out there are calling for full on nerfs, particularly to militia damage but I think that would be going too far, so this is an alternative proposal. |

This. +1
If new players can't figure out by themselve how advance equipment make any difference from militia one. Veteran players just need to kill them over and over with better gears to show them. That's all. Oh and since this is still FPS a scrub with best gear is still a scrub. End of story.

I think their current militia deterrent is sufficient. The militia items are equal to the first available options in each tier to buy, but they have higher cpu and pg costs. I'm feeling that strain on my suits currently, and it definitely has me moving to less militia gear as I spec up and skill out.
If anything they should simply make that variance wider, so that the weight of the cheap gear is felt on the suit limitations.
The scaling of levels, skill points, and isk should primarily be about options. Having several items in your suit more than a noob would get. If the scaling is all in the damage or direct usability of items then new players will prolly just drop the game, seeing it as an imbalance rather than a feature.
Elitist mentality aside - no one wants to play in an empty game. A certain amount of inclusiveness must be achieved.

Actually - I'm sticking with militia gear primarily because I have to skill into so many things to stop using militia gear... I have to spec out ar, shot gun, logi suits, scout suits, damage electronics, ect, ect, ect... And that's not even touching vehicles >_<
So much skilling up to do, I'm gonna be basing my kits around freebies and militia for a while dude... |

worst idea ever. having more of SP and better gear is enough advantage over new players already.
militia items have a drawback, namely higher fitting requirements. more fitting requirement means you cant fit everything you want, especially new players that do not have any fitting skills yet. |

I like the militia gear as a test out of new things. I don't have to spend a ton to decide I don't like carrying something. Also, the blueprint loadouts are a fund saver for newbs, as well as just the starter fits. Personally I wish the better suits were easier to visualize, I can't tell the difference half the time on what folks are wearing beyond assault, heavy, scout, logi. It's not like they're camouflaged... heck paint 'em pink. |

I get the feeling that these "nerf the worst weapons in the game" threads are started by butthurt people who get wasted by some random Militia Assault Rifle to often. Wanna nerf Militia Nades as well? |

I'm actually not at all bothered about getting killed by militia stuff because it doesn't happen to me all that often.
What I'm saying is change the way the stuff works a little - heck make these changes to all weapons but make the difficulty lessen as you skill up. This way we don't have to cater to all those people saying to nerf the damage militia weapons do but something can still be done to make there a credible difference between the tiers. |
