Ok, I realize plenty of people put lots of time and effort into this game... but what are you striving for? You have added a few RPG elements to this FPS to make it enjoyable, but for a FPS at its core, it is far from fluid. Granted, its in beta... understandable... but i would have to assume that your core battle mechanics are set, and they are, at the least, horrible. How about the ingame tutorials... they explain an aspect or two of menus that have 50 options. I went through the entire tutorial process, and understood very little, I am no neurophysicist , but I am a 3d animator with a head on my shoulders, and the explanations given in tutorial sections are abysmal. For example, bought a new sniper for my arbiter... no idea how to get it in my loadout. When you create a new fitting, it sets you up with equip, weapons etc. that already fill the pg/cpu and there is no option to NOT have a sidearm , module, etc... so it very disheartening to buy a new gun and not be able to use it. At its heart this is a FPS, with horrific gameplay control, zero fluidity , and a menu that is taxing to figure out...
Im a nobody, and my opinion means squat, but as a person who works in the gaming industry, and has played almost every title to release in the last 10 years on multiple consoles, while not being the worst game i've beta tested, its not far above.
I doubt ill be turning Dust514 back on, even if i could understand the fitting process, the battle mechanics are linear to the rest of Unreal Tech games...trash. Its a bad engine that doesn't allow for smooth gameplay. and seeing that the base of the game is FPS, with a few rpg elements, its not even comparable to any decent FPS thats out today. Your lightyears away from a BO2, or BF3, which seems troublesome seeing as this game seems to offer very little outside a ten minute TDM battle.
Even if your plan is F2P with item mall, this game is a stretch, even for eve fans, Outside of eve fans, there is pretty much zero reason to play |

If you want the game to improve, I suggest you provide constructive feedback instead of having a tantrum. Explain specifically what you mean by fluidity, and how it should be fixed. What are your problems with the controls?
I know the tutorials aren't the best, but come on... you really couldn't figure out how to switch the gun on your fitting? Select fitting, press X, edit fitting, scroll the wheel to the current light weapon you have equipped, press X, select REPLACE. You should then see a list of all weapons you have in stock.
If you didn't buy any dropsuits, then the dropuits you have listed when you try to create a new fitting are just presets already with things in them. preset fittings are free, but the tradeoff is that you can't remove parts of them, you can only replace them.
If you want to not have a sidearm, buy a dropsuit from the market (i recommend from the militia section of the market since they don't require skill points to use). Dropsuits that you buy yourself (with ISK earned from battles) don't come wtth any weapons, modules, equipment, or anything in them. You have to buy the weapons, modules, equipment that you want to fit in them; buy in Bulk, it gets used up when you die (but its cheap).
Your assumption that things are set is false, this is an MMO that will get constant free updates and free expansions from the devs for years to come. A major update is coming soon (March I think).
Unreal Engine 3 is used successfully by many great games, so your assessment of the engine is false.
There are more modes coming, incliding a PVE mode against rogue drones, a planetary conquest mode. RIGHT NOW there is a mode called Skirmish where you fight for control of objectives that help you destroy an enemy's ship, so its ot just TDM.
If you want help or advice, just ask and I will help you. |

I am really interested in (constructive) feedback from new players about how to improve the game since new players have not grown use to the imperfections of the game. Please provide some specifics on what is wrong, and how to improve it. |

honestly? though I am an eve player I was never overly into it or obsessed, I have always been a fan of any good games and shooters were something i loved for a long time now. Dust 514 is pretty decent, it just needs... more of pretty much everything which is supposed to be coming more maps, weapons, skills vehicles once it's all here i'l be happy. |

Or in simpler terms
HTFU
I find it thoroughly entertaining when people complain vehemently about something despite knowing it's in the Beta phase. It makes me wonder if they even considered the idea that ... since it's in a Beta phase these problems that they're complaining about are going to get fixed in the intervening time span between now and full release.
There are major issues however. Spawn points, weapon mechanics, music, map variety, game mode variety, and more links between EVE and DUST players. And every single one of these have been brought up ... several times over and sometimes even by the same people.
Also, as KAGEYOSHI said, there's no sense in criticizing a game and how it's mechanics work without and kind of solid backup or reference to support your argument. As a 3D game designer, you probably have a better idea of how certain systems work in a game, but these systems leave room for plenty of improvement.

Take a look at this video. It's from the EVE FanFest held last year (this year's is happening in April if I remember rightly) I want you to go to 36:30 to 37:19 and listen very carefully to the answer Mr. Atli gives (who incidentally is the Creative Director of DUST)
"...And it's more about creating a system that allows us to pile on these ingredients..."
Let the DEV team set up and fix the base as needed. Then you can start complaining about the changes that need to be made, if any.
EDIT: I'd also suggest taking a look at the DUST 514 playlist CCPGames has on their YouTube channel. You might get a better idea of how hard it is to create a game of this scope and magnitude and also see where they plan to go with this ... and believe me, when you look at a game like EVE and it's rather colorful history, they'll get there by any means necessary. |

If you viewed the other tutorials in the Help section of the Neocom, such as Market and Fittings, you would have no problems with dealing with the market and editing/making fittings |
