Just came back after not playing since November, and I have to say the new SP system is awful. I don't know why CCP is catering to the whiners who cry because someone might get some equipment before them or whatever the reason is, but it's awful. Before I took a break from Dust, there were times when I got more SP in a match than the current weekly cap. For the record, I'm pretty much fine with where SP rewards are now (they could probably stand to be a bit higher), but the cap itself is stupid and needs to go.
Arbitrarily making skills take years to unlock is not going to make the game better, deeper, or more popular, not to mention that this system totally screws anyone who hasn't been playing since the day after the last wipe, which means people downloading the game today (or in the future) are going to be at a massive disadvantage to everyone else, and will more than likely quit since it will take them months or years to be able to even compete with vets. What's the plan for when those people whine, assuming they don't just outright quit... Freeze anyone with over x amount of SP from getting any SP at all until all the new players catch up? A game with any sort of skill progression is always going to reward those who put in the most time/effort, and this silly attempt to do away with that is only going to drive new players away in the long run. |

I agree with you that there is an inherent issue with the game in that new players are going to be at a major disadvantage because of the disparity between new players and old players. I can only imaging what it'll be like for a new player that joins during the official launch several months from now when we've pretty much all spec'd out our primary builds.
I think there should be some gametype/playlist (as a public match type) that allows nothing but militia gear and removes (or at least greatly dampens) bonuses gained from skills. This way new players can build up SP and ISK (maybe at reduced gains) without being destroyed every game. It'll also provide an arena to play almost purely on skill and nothing else, so there should still be plenty of vets willing to take part in it. |

Some people have jobs and can't afford to play as much. This means that those who play for leisure can never step into the competitive ring, which is a brig problem for people like me who want to play both Eve and Dust. I fully endorse the SP cap and recommend ISK rewards for doing well in a match.
Also, I run militia gear all the time. As long as I work with a group I come out near the top of the killboard at match end. |

well i live in the United States, don't know how many others do, but i personally think that this system of "slow down to appease the little guys" is a massive game breaker for the dedicated crowed. in America we condone self progression and furthering one's self based on their efforts... it is clear that this same mind set is absent in greenland/china. |

Maybe later they'll break up matches of people into Total SP echelons. That way people or character with lower SP will be all grouped together |

^This^ This IS their general idea, if you search the forums for matchmaking you will find many threads talking about it and how it will be implemented. CCP has other, more important things to work on first, like smooth functioning game mechanics, and proper working integration between DUST and EVE. Take this time to get stomped into the dirt and maybe learn how to play against someone with a large lead on you SP wise instead of crying about it. Are they supposed to cater to new EVE players who don't have the same ammount of SP that a 10 year vet has? Those of us who have played since the final reset have ~2-3mill SP by now. That's not that much of an advantage in the long run. (See character active for ~30 days)
My alt is a very squishy logi (I am an Assault/AV player on my main, so its quite the change of play) with ZERO passive, and no active boosters. It currently has under 1mill SP total, zero points into anything other than logi skills, and I can still kill a type B suit with a militia assault rifle or grenades if I think while I play instead of just running straight on into the spray of bullets coming for my head.
Think before you run in and you will die less, there will always be new players to the game, and you're opinion will change to mine once you get some SP under your belt and another newberry comes along with a post just like this. Infact, I've seen it happen already where a known forum QQer has now told newberries to give it time and it won't matter now that he/she has learned to adapt. |
