CCP Frame wrote:Think of the event this way though: Things, just like in EVE, will not always happen exactly when you want them to happen. It is living and breathing world and it is a single shard universe. Sometimes you have to be in the right place in the right time to experience something unique and live to tell the tale to others.
I missed a lot of amazing EVE battles myself and yet I get chills just from listening to the stories my friends tell me later and vice versa. But you will have so many things to experience that you simply will not be able to get in all of them unless you simply don't sleep at all :) And I know some of you are even capable of doing that.
But rest assured that you will make an impact in New Eden. Because you are here to do that.
I agree, in a sense... I mean, considering that I just got home and the battles have ended - and I have no part in the "official" part of the storyline, I'm a little discouraged.
I mean, what's the point of extending the Mercenary battles if it's only for a certain time period where a certain amount of people who had a certain job (not working at the time, so to speak) to affect the storyline? To hell with the rewards, honestly, just let us all have a chance to be part of the immersion.
I'd rather say, "I kept Mordu's Legion alive" than "I got x50 pink scout suits" |

Sylvana Nightwind wrote:Do you think that Mordu's Legion is going to wait for some "Real life" to line up with people so they can participate? EVE Events are the same, they run for short time and only those that really want to join - join. Others will have to see the result. But you will probably participate in a few. I am fine with missing an event, and that makes stronger and versatile community of various players owning other things and being unique and in 10 years you will have people that have cool weapons back from closed beta and people that have items back from that one event that happened once, or just contributed to a RP story that used to happen back then. And CCP seems to have very limited tools to organize these events so maybe you can't even make mercenary battle where you can choose side right now? And yet they do events for us. And I appreciate that.
Not the issue, the issue is that only today's event pertains to the actual in-game event, but there's still going to be more so people can get "rewards".
(unless I misinterpreted something)
So, essentially, there's going to be more opportunities to be part of the "event" but only in the metaphorical sense. War is on-going, not something that happens over the course of a few hours when everyone is too busy working to do something about it. Dust Mercs being immortal, they would just give up and die off because of one day they'd keep fighting.
Which is where my discouragement comes from. I don't care about the rewards, I want to fight back and change the course of the in-game events. So unless the other battles are actually going to matter, I'm liable to just skip them unless there's some BPO in it for me. |

CCP Eterne wrote:Hey guys, we appreciate the feedback here and everywhere else. We're quite happy with the turnout even though there are obviously some kinks/hurdles to overcome.
1) We know you can't pick which side to join at the moment. It's a bit of a pain, but our backend currently doesn't have the capability to do it properly, though we're looking into ways to get around that. 2) The problem with the corps switching away from the Templaris Dragonaurs and Mordu's Legion were unexpected and we're looking into ways to keep that from happening. In case it occurs in the future, we'll be sure to clearly identify who is supposed to be the attacked and who is supposed to be the defender. 3) THIS event did not have any specific reward tied to it, but we might be giving some extra rewards out for future battles. My lips are sealed about what they might be. 4) You're not only affecting the EVE storyline, you're affecting the DUST storyline as well. If you don't care about that, fair enough. But for those who do, trust me, your actions were noticed (and will be reflected). 5) We currently have to put all these events into the system manually, which means we need a GM sitting there putting in new contracts as battles end. This is obviously suboptimal, but is part of the reason the length of the events are restricted for now. We've got some crazy people in the Live Events team, however, so we've got plans to cover additional timezones and get some extended events going.
Hey, if all I have to do is make a spreadsheet saying who won and by how much - I'll up to be a GM. Jus' sayin'. |
