Even though boarding would be awesome I do agree that it is tottaly impractical, unfair, complicated, and too difficult to do. Although fighting inside stations could work. And maybe boarding NPC ships Oh man the station part sounds awesome.. I can imagine that if you assault a station, you'd start by having your war barge or some other ship dock with a CRU onboard, and you have to invade the station and take over CRU's and control rooms from there on. It could have multiple sectors, and taking over a control room for each sector would automatically ally all that sector's turrets to your side. I even like that you'd only start with 1 spawn point, as it shouldn't really be easy to take a station. It'd have to be a VERY coordinated attack. I suppose I'm just not entirely sure how one would go about repelling this assault.
I like this idea, but it would be especially hard to appropriately convey the sense of scale. Assaulting a station wouldn't be a 32 v 32 mathc or even a 64 v 64 match. More like hundreds (or more) on each size.
To give you a sense of this, my Eve character is currently docked in the Hek system at one of its many stations. Currently docked and active in that station are ~70 other pilots. My hangar alone has two fully constructed battlecruisers, 2 cruisers, and a spec ops frigate. Each of those battlecruisers is 600 metres long and crews several hundred people. In order for a station to service that many pilots with large crews (and battleships/haulers are larger still) the native population of the station/security force, etc. you'd have to have at least a few hundred thousand people. Jita 4-4 (the largest market in New Eden) is likely populated by millions of normals simply running services and providing station security.
If this were something that were going to be implemented, it would almost have to be a matter of huge corporations acting in a state of perpetual raid-style warfare. |
