When I started I was playing Logi, had a bunch of fun, was using a blueprint, pretty low priced gear, made quite a profit. Then I decided it would be nice to kill stuff for a change and switched to a heavy.
Loaded him up with complex shield extenders, some decent weapons, and noticed that although I was living longer, I was still actually losing money each match due to the shear price of the suit. And regardless of what suit I'm wearing, the Logi or the heavy I'm making about the same income, maybe less on the Heavy, because although I kill more, my Logi raked in the points with healing and supplying.
So I see an issue, my Heavy is still entry level, Type-1 suit, low level gun, plenty of upgrades to go, but there is no way to get more money, there aren't more valuable "missions" to run to fuel my war machine, so is the general idea that we can't upgrade our suits and use them all the time? That some times we need to use budget suits just to make money?
How are other people funding their more expensive upgrades?
And this doesn't even include vehicles. I realize that the intention isn't for us to be able to call in drop ships and tanks every match, but I'm already running in the Red, I couldn't dream of decking out a nice tank unless I want to run a Militia suit to fund it. |

Don't use what you can't afford to lose.
Should be using cheaper stuff while you save your more expensive stuff for corp battles and what not. |

Makes sense. Think I'll start focusing skill points on stat upgrades instead of equipment upgrades and keep my costs low. Thanks. |

The expensive stuff is there for when your interest is winning more than making money. For regular games, where you want to make money to afford the pricey stuff, you're better off sticking with mostly militia gear. The idea, as far as I'm aware, is not for players to continuously be using the more advanced gear.
The economic part of Dust, in particular the idea that players would ever want to take contracts from EVE people to fight for control of planets in return for a cash bounty, would be somewhat pointless if you were able to make enough money off of Instant Battle matches to sustain yourself. |

yea you cant run the high end stuff al the time always assume you will get only 200k isk a match and keep track of how much you lose a match, only go above that 200k limit if the match is really close and you want to push out a victory. |

My 2 cents on ISK viability for early heavies.
Make sure your passive armor and passive sheild skills are lvl 4, and weaponry is lvl 5.
Run the Type-II suit with milita fittings wherever possible. Your cost per fitting is then suit + HMG. Run a militia damage +5% mod and militia armor repper. Your choice for other mods.
Exercising only a moderate amount of caution(you live and die by your sheild recharge) this should make you money.
It can help to go in with a scout fitting first to place an uplink somewhere that will save you having to hump it across areas with no cover. |

It's true that the expensive stuff is for winning games, but running an insanely armoured fit can also be a money maker. Being in a tank yesterday that went 34-0, (not my tank). Or when working with some corp mates to reinforce the heavy we were with, I think he went ~30-0. I think you need to know when to spend it, and when to hold it, depending on your opponents abilities. Unfortunately, I think this has contributed the the steamrolling state of affairs. When out classed, you can still benefit from the match by playing militia kit, which is great to be honest, since this will change when people are battling over real property, and winning and losing will matter. |

Complex shield extenders on a Type I Heavy? Wouldn't that make more sense on a Type II? |
