Hi, first of all just wanted to say that I am a proud new member of the unwashed masses of 'newberries' and I'm already loving this game. It's amazing what CCP has put together. I'm particularly liking the laser rifle, but I'm not sure I fully understand how it works.
So as I understand it, the damage increases over time until it overheats. Does the damage scale based on how long the beam has been held down, or how close the laser is to overheating? As an example, if I hold down my laser and let go right at before it would have overheated, then choose a new target before the heat bar goes back down much and fire again, will I do the same increased damage I was just doing? Or does the damage reset to the lowest base damage every time I let go of the trigger?

It resets every time you let go of the trigger so don't let go till you are near overheating :) |

It's also probably worth mentioning that the Laser Rifle has the most damage efficiency at longer range, meaning it does hardly any damage at close range but becomes deadly as you come close to max range. Light weapon sharpshooter is definitely a skill you want to do well. |

I read in another thread that Light Weapon Sharpshooter raises not only the max range of the Laser Rifle but also the minimum effective range. I don't know how significant that is, or even if it's still true but thought I'd mention it. |

You are correct Larry, the Laser rifle does more damage at its maximum range than it does close up, so in a way its better for longer range but gimps close range at the same time. My advice would be to run a secondary weapon for CQC. |
