Firstly, just sorta started playing Dust and I love it!
However, there are some extremely basic things about this game that need to be fixed, firstly the fact that voice chat is needlessly complicated to activate. As with many things in this game that are needlessly complicated & not remotely intuitive, if you have an effective UI, I should not need to look up on the internet how to enable my voice chat in your game (for me and my brother who is an experienced professional interaction designer).
I understand that you want your game to appeal to "core" gamers and that overcomplicated menus are part of your sci-fi aesthetic, but voice chat should be enabled by DEFAULT in a game that is reliant on strategy. I never hear anybody voice chatting in any drop-in games... unlike any other game I've played on psn. Don't you want your players strategizing?
Anyway, great game, keep up the good work, expect more posts by me on completely inane issues.

I'm referring mostly to the fact that I had to activate voice chat in my options menu, and then again in my select chat menu. Is there a purpose to having two places I have to activate voice chat?
Just seems unwieldy- not a dealbreaker but I just never hear any chatting in the games I play and I figure this is probably part of the reason. |

Mmm, I understand the appeal of not hearing 8 year olds making fart jokes, I really really really do.
But I would like to strategize with my team more often so that we could win more matches. Or as a new player, receive advice. When the default voice option is "off", and I'd like to coordinate with a stranger who is just learning, it creates an entirely unnecessary hurdle.
I just think there are things in a game that should be complicated, and things that shouldn't be. I don't mind a high gameplay learning curve. UI issues to me seem unintentional and a sign that the UI designers are not particularly adept at their field. I understand the EVE universe is very much about being complicated, but keep it in the game and out of the interface. |
