I've been thinking wouldn't it be cool to have elemental kinds of modules? Like Fire acid Lightning and ice weapon modules that add those damages to your weapons or give resistance to certain elements? And different elements are more or leads effective against certain barriers(like lightning would do bonus damage against shield). Just thought this would pretty cool and offer more weapon strategy. |

THis is already kinda implemented in EVE and will most likely come one day to Dust, although the types of damage and resists are different you have

Sounds like borderlands, good game. Dust should stay with eve type damage as stated earlier.
So weapons with electricity(scrambler pistol, arc cannon in novel) or fire(flamethrowers) sure.
Ice weapons, not so much. Spraying liquid nitrogen or liguid helium dosen't cause near as much damage as napalm so freeze weapons are not real practical. EvE's webbifers could fill role of ice in fantasy games, slowed movement effect.
If we get capacitors, it would have side benefit of allowing nos from eve. These were energy vampire devices that refill your cap as it drained cap of target. Cap is kinda like stamina, drained by actions and refills over time. EvE uses it instead of cooldown for most active modules. This is eve version of health drain effect, since one use of cap is restoring hp by running boosters/repairers. |

If damage types are eventually added to DUST 514, I could see it like this:
Electricity damage would be EM with some Thermal component. So would Lasers.
Flamethrowers would be Thermal damage.
Missiles will be kinetic and explosive. Bullets are kinetic with a little explosive for shells. |

Glad to see confirmation of eve damage types hidden under surface in dust. That eve weapon types are there suggests we may one day have damage type specific resistance modules like eve. |

Note the hinting towards flamethrowers. Very welcome weapon, that will patch the short range anti-shield gun which is missing. Not sure if a good thing though, a diversion into shield-short and armor-long might be good for the game. |

Technically already kinda used with how em nades blow shields while MD's explosives work better on armour *shrugs* I assume though we will see a repetition in EVE's system for consistency. |

Explosive plates do not make you invincible. If they eventually used the type of weapons mentioned, then I would imagine vehicles and potentially suits would have stats the way ships do in EvE. Each vehicle/suit would be vulnerable to each damage type at different percentages. Therefore, even if they slap on explosive resistant plate, they could still be vulnerable to kinetic or thermal damage.
Myself, I would support a system that allowed for this type of in depth gameplay. It can affect tactics just the same as it does in EvE.

Hybrids (rails & blasters) are equally effective against shields and armour. Lasers are more effective against shields. Mass drivers and HMGs are more effective against armour. etc.

I mean if you use a rocket luncher against a shield tank, you will have to use all your rockets, but if you get it on an armor tank you more likely use only one Rocketpack. otherwise for the Forge gun of course. is it like: Rockets do 0,7 against shield and 1,2 against Armor? |

I think you're right XINERA, the function is already in game. However I think that it may not be as multifaceted as it could be. Currently weapons will do differing dps to armor/shields, however that could be extended to apply "types" as a second layer on top of the current mechanic thus providing for more fitting and weaponry specializations and thus greater game diversity.
I could be mistaken about the current level of implementation, but that's my impression of it at present
