Just wondering if the Nova Knives are good enough to use on a hacking Scout. I already have a shotgun Scout, but I want a gimmick character to play on while my friends are offline.
So, if it's feasible, any tips on skills and equpment? |

Nova Knife and Maken Tosch had done well with that.
I was attacked several times by knifers last night and they all died before they got to me. I did see someone go down to one though. |

Nova knife's can be effective but you need very good situational awareness, plenty of cover, and enemies that are preferably focused on something else, if you want to do well with them |

Nova Knife and Maken Tosch are both players who've honed this skill set. I also know a guy who's gone 19/8 using only Nova Knives throughout an entire round.
They're a more select skill set, and a challenge, but it certainly can be effective.

I used the knives on an alt with acceptable success (average kdr above 1).
Just make sure you go for the advanced knives right at the start because those dish out 360 points of damage if both strikes connect, which is enough to kill most militia assault suits instantly.
I mostly preferred the combination of hacking an enemy installation, waiting for some lonely red to attempt to cap it and then slicing him up. If that's too boring there's always the option of jumping at wounded enemies from heights like a hungry animal.
Personally I like to have a shotgun as a backup weapon. If my prey spots me first and tries to taunt me by running away I can just tap R2 and one-shot their surprised faces. |

Usually, I use the knives to hunt snipers... yes, it sounds weird, but I see it as a challenge to sneak up ninja-style behind a sniper and stab them, and then imagine their WTF faces.
as the post above says, the advanced knives give you a high chance of insta-kill almost anything you caught flat footed... but if the target noticed you, the best choice is a shotgun to the face (don't try following them with your knives) |

When I run knives for the thrill of the hunt, I take everything off except the knives, senser damp, shield extender and stamina mod; Man, it is so much fun! |

It can be pretty sweet to use while defending. Hackers are so oblivious to their surroundings, and when squads attack bases they usually never watch their six so find a building, wait for them to find their cover, and jump down and get them Assassin's Creed style.
I wouldn't be totally opposed to adding an option to throw the knives though (and having to retrieve it). Make it a short distance opportunity and it still wouldn't be as good as shotguns, but would keep you off enemy radars. |
