This is a graphical issue which creates a tactical/mechanical one.
The ability of Heavy HMGs to shoot from a location not corollary with the muzzle of the weapon leads to a "shooting through walls" effect. It breaks immersion and diminishes tactical game play for solid physical objects to suddenly not be cover for no clear reason.
Now let me be clear, I think it's fine for HMGs to be able to target as they do now so long as it is visibly evident that they are able to do so. The UI needs to give proper cues to the user regarding what is occurring within the game world.

Can you explain this a bit more Cross? I'm ignorant of the problem and I'd like some more background information/explanation of it please.
Keep up the good work as always. I always read your threads. Maybe I'm a fan. PS |

THis is the "head glitching" that many people always talk about. You shoot out of your eyeballs not out of the gun. This is why heavies with their huge HMG can hide behind a rock and with only their head exposed shoot their HMG and hit you andyou can see the bullets visibly coming out from the middle of the rock. This is also why snipers can sit with just the very tip of their head exposed and snipe people.......every character/weapon has this issue....and yes it is something that needs to be addressed. |

this doesnt ONLY apply to HMG users.... although it is much more inadvertant for hmg to do it than say laser, sniper, etc that are softspotting...
glitches that devs need to fix, plain and simple..

As a side note, another graphical issue I have is with the way heavies climb ladders.
They literally carry the HMG in one hand the whole way up. That's some serious man power right there. |

But in all actuality a Heavy shouldnt be able to climb a later for the fact that that a heavy suit wouldnt allow a heavy to climb a later. |

I actually agree that heavies should not be able to climb ladders.....lore would be easy enough to explain this. I also think they should occupy 2 person slots in a vehicle. |

This occurs because CCP hasn't put in an animation that would make sense, AKA the heavy lifting the gun and bracing it on top of the small wall. Would make people quitcher QQing, but that would take up yet more resources devoted to gameplay. |

This is true and has been mentioned this is not exclusive to the heavy (it's just most pronounced there), the problem comes not in a mechanical class balance issue but in that the current graphics provide false feedback to the user. The same type of issue appears when sounds of weapons fire are absent, etc.
These sorts of issues are not simply presentation or "window dressing" due to their impact on tactical choices and game play. CCP, before you make the graphics look better, please make sure they represent what's actually taking place on the battlefield.
Cheers, Cross
ps ~ Piercing Serenity, I hope the thread thus far has cleared up what I was talking about however if any questions remain do please ask :) and I"m glad you like the threads, I'll have that to console me the next time you and your Corp bring the pain in a match |

As a heavy who blew himself up today with a forgun shot that should have been over a railing but wasn't.... I would rather say its the terrain's fault. |

Not impossible. You don't do manual labor do you?
edit: 'physical work' is what I mean. Drilling, construction, breaking concrete, framing, etc.. |

I think heavies shouldn't be climbing ladders period. The fact that they can barely walk and turn while carrying an HMG should be proof enough that climbing a ladder would be impossible. |

I see no reason why heavies shouldn't be able to climb ladders if they do it SLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWLY.
I mean future space ladders should be able to handle the weight and the heavies with determination should be able to find tactically advantageous spots just like assaults or scouts.
In this thread butt hurt heavy haters trying to nerf the heavy.

But heavies don't need high ground for advantage when they can easily handle 2 vs 1. A heavy shouldn't be as affective as a sniper rifle or AR from the top of a platform halfway across a map. |
