The better you do in a heavy suit the more you become a target for either a whole squad, or parts of their entire team.
This means you are doing something right. Either that or you are making yourself a bigger target than you need, and people are focusing on you because you are giving them an option to get at you.
Kryptix is correct that you should avoid open spaces, but you should also avoid long lanes, where someone with a sniper or laser can get an unobstructed shot at you for more than 1 second.
In the communications menu, look up a chat channel called logi/heavy, there is normally a logi hanging out at the bar, and it is better to go into battle with a mic-less logi than with no one at all. Even an assault with nanites can be enough, although I would recommend investing some SP in armor repair systems if you plan on playing with guys who only carry nanites.
You already know you are big and slow, and you know that a lot of enemies can survive encounters with you if they can strafe, or jump in and out of cover. Don't let them get away with this. If you can, work with a wall on one side, to prevent the enemy from circling you in at least one direction. Backing yourself into a corner may seem stupid, but there are some very rare times where ti will prevent the squad that just rounded the corner from being able to surround and destroy you. If an enemy is using cover, close the distance, but do not chase them around that corner. What you want is for him to duck into cover with a heavy 15m away, then the next time he pops out, you are 5m away. Use caution against shotgun troops. This ends in a face wiping if you don't realize what you are fighting against.
Yes, you are slow. Very slow if you run armor plate. This doesn't mean that you should stand still to shoot. In fact, the more you keep moving with the HMG, the better, because once you start firing, they start flanking. |

Iam Krogan wrote:Thanks for great advise. I'm sure it helps other noob heavies too. I think I figured it out now with some trial and error. Basically I was trying to play solo assault, because that's what I thought I had seen other heavies do. Didn't quite work out. I don't have the type II armor yet. I decided to drop the extra armor plates to get better mobility, instead I have an armor repairer and shield extender and recharger. I peek around a corner and fire short bursts, then go back in cover for shield recharge. And it seems a lot of people haven't figured out yet that coming around the corner is a bad idea if there's a HMG guy waiting for you. Now I just wish more people would carry nanohives with them...
Peak and fire is a great tactic, but try not to forget that your weapon is very, very inaccurate on short bursts. Those first 20 rounds go every direction within your aiming circle, and you will need up to a half second with the standard HMG to get rounds consistently on target at anything over 30m.
What this normally means is that if you are running a shield heavy fit, that you stay out shooting until your shields are almost gone, then pop back into cover. This is where having a logi with you comes into play. Logi with a good rep means you can be exposed to shoot slightly longer, or can trade more damage with the enemies in front of you.
You might consider dropping the shield extender for a complex damage mod. 10% more DPS goes a long way towards dropping hordes that are swarming you, more so than 22 shield HP is going to save you. With circuitry to level 3 you can run a complex damage mod, MH82, and an armor plate, which makes for a great setup if running with a logi. You don't get a sidearm, but you shouldn't need one anyway. You might have to drop your grenades to if you are short on CPU, but if that is the case, I would stick with the standard HMG until you get more levels into either circuitry, or HMG Upgrade to reduce the CPU consumption/boost output. |

On the subject of survivability, anybody drop some SP into rapid reload? Could I get a noticeable change from a level, or should I wait and throw three in a week or two, after investing in HMG sharpshooter first? |

Also what are the advantages of the MH82? I've been focusing on Circuitry but I am about to put more into my defenses and I'm trying to decide how far to go there before I put some more in weapons. (Field mechanics just about topped off, level 3 shield enhancement(? first one))
MH-82 has a slightly longer ranger (+3-5m) slightly less heat build up (+1 per S I think) and more damage(+0.8)
all for only 30k ISK more per unit. |
