I do consider that Dust is F2P, but right now there are many things in-game that are completely horrific (the spawning system, especially). While I know it's a work-in-progress, by beta stage, the spawn system is one thing I would have least thought would be nigh-on-perfect.
Especially in Ambush mode. There have been times that I have spawned into the middle of at least 5 enemy players on my first spawn and immediately lost 35000 ISK worth of fitting because of what could have been an avoidable occurrence if not for such a poorly executed spawning system. I have also seen players on opposing teams spawn side-by-side, back-to-back, etc. Why is there no simple distance limit or wandering spawning regions? Currently, Ambush and Ambush OMS is ridiculous.
I now avoid spawning with expensive gear on the first wave in Ambush, because of the silly spawn positions. Actually, I avoid using expensive gear in Ambush at all, because of this. You can call it a lack of player skill on my part, but I'd rather not take the chance when I may spawn together with an enemy Heavy for no apparent reason.
And regarding spawning in Skirmish mode:
There are plenty of gripes I have with spawning in Skirmish actually, but most of them are solved by a competent team and Drop Uplinks.
I noticed that if spawning on a point that is in the process of turning, and it turns/is captured by the enemy, I lose the time on the spawn countdown and am forced to wait a fresh 10 seconds to spawn on a different point.
Please, on the overview map, add a timer icon beside points that have been hacked, counting down to how long the point has until it is captured/turned. This way, if a point has been hacked and I wish to spawn on it, I can tell if whether I should spawn on it, or avoid spawning on it to save myself 6 seconds out of 10 because there's only 4 seconds left until it is captured.
Additionally, as a side note:
AUTOMATIC LETTERBOX/WIDESCREEN:
Please, CCP, turn this off, or at least turn it into a toggle in System Options. It's a complete joke having to squint to read text just because Dust automatically widescreens itself. And no, it's not a problem on my end; I have checked and altered my PS3 settings, set my TV view mode to full and the Dust screen size to 100, and yet I am still stuck with widescreen. Please, if you do not wish to alienate us players with old CRT TV's, disable this. Please.
I know it's 2013 and I have an outdated TV, but c'mon, this is not an issue I should be having. There seems to be no logical reason for automatic letterboxing/widescreen, so why is it included? Please disable it. I am enjoying this game less because of it. |
