Agreed. I'll just copy/paste what I wrote in a thread about a week ago on the same subject in the Feedback/Requests section:
These prices, in my opinion, are way too high for four major reasons:
1. Quickly replaced by better items. Because these are almost all militia-grade items, they will be quickly replaced. Unless you made a conscious effort to gimp yourself, or are extremely "frugal" when it comes to ISK, there's no reason to use a lot of these for very long, making the price much too high. You might have one or two in a later fit just because you've spent your SP elsewhere, but it doesn't incentivize people to buy more than that.
2. (Related to 1) People will be paying for something that is actually really poor quality. Not only are these BPOs (the militia ones) the least effective, they also take more PG/CPU than regular low-level variants, meaning you're even less likely to use them in the long run.
3. Low price ISK alternatives. When you're getting 200,000+ ISK a match and the item you see priced at 5 dollars costs like 600 ISK per fit, you're either not going to buy the Aurum version, or you're going to be pissed you already bought it, making you less likely to pay for more stuff in the future.
4. Can't switch BPOs between characters. Potentially the only redeeming quality of these absurdly high prices would be the ability to use them on multiple characters instead of having to buy one for each guy. But you can't. |

Snaps Tremor wrote:All those reasons would have the devs (and a lot of players) nodding in agreement, not clamouring to change the system. The jump in price was a logical step to wean people off the idea of finding comfortable zero-sum fits, raking in the cash for playing without ever having to engage in the risk/reward system at the core of Dust.
Overall, the blueprint prices are pretty poor value for what you get in return, but intelligent purchases (instead of the old system of just blanket-purchasing everything on the store) can save you a lot of money in the long run. Stupid purchases won't. It's very much in line with the way Eve and CCP operate.
I'm not denying the prices before were really low, (I'm sure they did that as a courtesy to Closed Beta participants) but the prices now are outrageously high. Sometimes I really wish CCP was more forthcoming with information like exactly how much of a certain (AUR) item has been sold. They have that "Top 5 Sellers" on the market, but that's hardly helpful.
The prices for these BPOs now are just too high. I don't really care either way, I bought the ones I wanted on 3 characters before they raised the price, I'd just like to see newer players have a reasonably priced option. |

Snaps Tremor wrote:In this interview the devs mentioned that one of the first trading things they'll be implementing is a direct player-to-player system, before moving on to corp and eventually Eve/Dust transfers. Once that's in, the prices will make way more sense, as people can 'pass on' the militia blueprints they no longer need to other members or even a central corp repository. They just switched the prices as early as possible to avoid the open beta influx seeing the previous test prices as normality. We can't see the full picture, and they're plopping down bits of jigsaw randomly, but that doesn't mean the pieces are in the wrong place.
Though I haven't listened to the full interview yet, if the previous development pace of this game is any indication, we won't be seeing that sort of implementation for a long time. It should also be noted that the prices you're seeing now are ten times higher than the ones CCP initially said they were going to change the BPOs to. It's not like Monday afternoon they had no intention of letting people sell Militia BPOs down the line, and then Tuesday morning everyone decided it was a good idea.
It seems clear to me (and members of CCP as well, judging by the prices that were going to be used) that these prices are way too high. |
