Would you rather Dust stay a PS3 game that will be ported to the PS4
Or
Pushing the game back to be a PS4 exclusive, in which the developers can make the game with features that the PS3 hardware couldn't handle?
Seem like a decent trade off .
Dust514 wants to be a MMOFPS, but I have never seen a console pull off a real MMOFPS before with a open world and numbers greater than Dumbar's Number.
Planetside 2 comes to mind, but that's PC game (rumored to be coming to the PS4 later on).
But this game, Dust514 could really feel like a MMOFPS and a large grand scale war battle if it had an open world for players to fight over and explore. Maybe a few Alien npc to fight for PvE from place to place in between the large scale FPS war.
That's what I love about MMOFPS, is the large scale multiplayer which feel like a long term war but with fantasy/Sci Fi/ whatever theme.
Something way better than what we have here can be done if the developers at CCP would develop Dust for the PS4 rather than for a aging PS3 hardware and trying to port it to the PS4.
I don't really care about the graphics improvements for the PS4 and its ports. I care about the power that the new generation console hardware has that allow bigger, more awesome games to be possible.

It's a stepping stone, but full PS3 conversion won't take effect for a while. The PS4 most likely will get a general port and may get optimization for draw distance, texture, frame rate, etc.
CCP took years to develop Dust, and have been in beta for .. well, it's going to be a year in a few months. I doubt that CCP will abandon all of that right away. |

Well when the PS4 comes out, CCP doesn't have to leave PS3 behind right away. What I think they'll do is start with graphical updates, minor things that don't differ hugely between each console. As time goes by and more PS3 players upgrade to PS4, they will be adding more enhancements to the gameplay such as large battle areas, more players per match, etc. sort of like what they are doing now, gradually adding new features and fixing problems on the way. |

totally agree with waiting till next playstation console. use the time on the PS3 for beta testing, that way CCP can get the majority of the bugs out, port it to the next-gen PS and run wild with the game.

Personally, I'd say release it on PS3 as planned - hopefully - then eventually port it to the PS4 (when it comes out) as a launch title. Then they can push out incremental updates such as graphics, bug fixes, and whatever the PS4 can dish out. That way, players can still play with what they have now and not have to wait till the PS4 releases and spend upwards of $500 just to make a new character. |

If they were to develop solely for the PS4 (this being nothing but a beta for it) and once the PS4 comes out close down the PS3 side, the game would die. There are never enough people buying at launch due to lack of titles and/or lack of funds, and for such a large-scale game that needs a lot of people to play...to tell people they must completely upgrade hardware they may not want to at that time or stop playing would spell the end of Dust. |

Exactly I can honestly say it will be at least a good long 5 years before we even hear any announcements of Dust being exclusive to the PS4. Until then, the 2 versions will be able to coincide with each other. |

i see your point. would still like them to wait till PS4 comes out to take dust out of beta. the number of bugs they still have, probably will have to.
and remeber, todays consoles came out last DECADE! game makers are waiting till next gens are out, they aren't seeing a great deal of insentive to make brand new games right now with the heardware maxed. nothing but sequels :( |

A good example would be the Premium and Classic clients that existed in EVE for quite a while, with one offering better graphics but both offering the same gameplay. The same can be done with Dust. |

I mentioned this in another thread but I think it's worth bringing up here too.
Any multiplayer networked game may have problems with clients on the PS3 and PS4 in the same battle. We don't know, but the greater capabilities of the PS4 might give players using it a significant advantage.
Would we want a PS4 client to be gimped in some way to let the PS3 continue to be competitive? |

Why do you assume it has to be ported? Do you think PS4 will have some kind of weird operating system that doesn't use the same code as PS3? Maybe the OS will change a little, and it may see some upgrades, but I hardly think that counts as a need to 'port' it.
Porting generally means you have to package the game in a new shell that can be accessed by a different OS with command switches to make this possible. Usually, that results in a game that hardly works properly, or tends to be limited to the original platforms capabilities.
I think what you mean is 'Update'. |

I hope it runs on both. I will get a PS4 but doubt it will be on launch til then I will be playing the shiet outta this on ps3.. PS4 will look amazing for this game. I hope the ps4 version will have higher player vs players counts on the battlefield and let us carry over our hard earned equipment and skills that we have unlocked in some sort of manner on the next console |

How you feel about this? I want a playstation 2 port as the controller on the ps2 is far supperior to the dual shock 3. I refuse to believe a modern day game developer wouldn't put it on the ps2.

It won't need a port, everything is scale-able, so they can use same code but change some variables to make it so a ps4 won't even play it. They will just adjust the scale when ps3 support is no longer wanted, and again when moving to ps5. |

No offence OP
But this is a prime example of someone posting without doing thier research. CCP consistantly upgrades and improves there games. Dust will be upgrades for PS4, and its likely those that can't afford the PS4 600quid price tag when it comes out will still be able to play on PS3.
This has been said many time, in interviews on the forum, in the gaming press.
SO to answer your question: the question is pointless since both are going to happen.

+1 for you sir for speaking facts and not conjecture like the rest of these muppets. Dust can easily run on both systems at once. The game runs on CCP hosted servers and the code is entirely scalable client side, so will be fine on two different systems. The differences you will notice will be shinier graphics and maybe better frame rates. Maps and polygon counts for the PS3 are enormous and Dust has so far not got even remotely close to its limits.
Now, not saying the transition will be seamless - nothing CCP does is quite that perfect - but it won't be bad. As someone already stated, Eve runs on Macs and PCs with an enormous range of architectures - if CCP can handle that, they can easily handle two different architectures of the PS3 and PS4.
Oh and to the person who said MMOs have never been done on console before - maybe look up DCUO; maybe not the best game ever but it was proper MMO and it did work and even was on PC and PS3. |

Dust 514 atm is a Beta, keep this in mind. I really can't think that CCP is programming a new F2P Shooter on a system which, like rumors say, will be in the next gen at the end of the year. I don't know how they will do it, but I trust CCP, look at EVE, and look at the BETA of Dust, which is already an awesome game (IMO). With Upcoming Updates and Addons, as we know from EVE, Dust will also have a very long lifespan on the next gen console. For sure the graphics and maybe the enginge will get old, but does this stuff disturbs you in EVE? No because its not just another Version of Call of Battlecrysis with the newest engine and the Highest Definition Graphics on earth, EvE is another world, another system where you can loose yourself in in so many ways, and if CCP goes on with what they already started in DUST this will nearly be the same experience, just in a FPS. So don't worry to much, CCP has its plans for sure, and if not, why the hassle? just buy another game... |
