Pure shield heavy would be what exactly? Type II suit obviously, but how far do I have to spec into shield skills to get a really good return?
Is it really worth it to trade off damage modifiers for shield, or should I build an armor tank and focus on DPS?
Assume I am building for playing with a logi, or at the least running an armor repair module and have squadies with nanites. |

Not sure how damage mods work in conjunction with skills but if they're just a flat bonus to the base damage of the gun (which I believe is the case) then you're essentially only losing out on a very marginal damage increase that likely won't even make one extra bullet worth of difference. Skills tend to make a considerably larger difference than modules.
Heavy II suit is good stuff, you needn't even invest more into the shields but obviously it helps and combined all of these little skill boosts here and there do make a difference. Keep in mind that your shield skills will be useful for other things as well.
Skilling for heavy suits isn't a bad move but I'd recommend that you consider what weapon system you wish to skill for before you do. Forge Guns require a lot of finesse to use and Heavy Machine guns are terribly underwhelming in my humble opinion. |

To be a good tank you pretty much need both eventually.
If your running with a logi w/ armor rep, then i would focus on armor tanking. The current heavy suits favor armor. This may change in the future when we eventually get race specific suits. |

I did not skill into shield enhancements at all, i prefer damage mods. eventually i will get them for a shield tank fit, but didnt want to use my SP there yet. if you are trying to make a shield tank fit you really need the complex shield mods, if you dont have those the HP increase is really negligible. i skilled up my shield control to 3 though, for the extra passive health. |
