I'm not asking for "Commando teleport" or "spartan's magentic charge" but you think you can increase the range while using nova knifes just a little longer than normal melee? Even 3-6 inches (length of the blades) would help tremendously (Knives can reach further than your elbow/fist naturally). Its annoying enough walking towards someone at the same speed they are back pedaling while reloading. You can't charge while sprinting and graphic-wise you know your close enough(if you were acutally there) so you release the charge yet you don't get the hit.
Nova knives are fun to play with, and I love the idea, but if im going to dump as SP into it over AR, might as well make it worth investing in.
Granted the double attack is nice but to my knowledge its "Melee*basic melee mods + NK damage*NK mods" so you'll have to invest in both to really make it work nicely, which most people would rather have a nice AR or SMG instead.
Also, because the NK skillbook is in handheld weapons, and can be placed in the Light weapon slot or secondary. Anyone know if skills such as lightweapon X/ secondary X affect Nova Knives? If so, then let us know and disreguard the range issue but I still have a few suggestions to make NKs more appealing to use.
My suggestions are as follows: Increase the NK range slightly (or say that they are affected by skillbook mods).
Add a Dropsuit biotic or stat to NK that increases Movement speed. (Many older games had it so you run faster with knife out.)
Include a even slight range increase for Myofibril stimlants (so not only will the damage increase, but so will the range) -This will encourage more melee fighting should both parties run out of ammo
Better Knives would improve on these stats, my examples would be below: (note, every stat changes the same except damage to balance the changes)
Nova Knives: CPU: 20 PG: 3 DMG: 160, Charge Time: 1.7s Meta lv: 2 Movement Speed: +3% Range: Melee +3%
ZN-28 NK CPU: 37 PG: 6 DMG: 180, Charge Time: 1.2s Meta lv: 5 Movement Speed: +6% Range: Melee +6%
Ishukone NK CPU: 62 PG: 9 DMG: 195, Charge Time: .7s Meta lv: 8 Movement Speed: +9% Range: Melee +9%
Hope this idea goes through! So far, great game, Keep it up! -Armageddon's Ghost |

Also Nova Knife and Noc Tempe discovered a glitch in the charged weapons feature.
First melee. While you are in the process of meleeing, quickly press and hold the R1 button to begin the charge. At that point, you will be able to sprint while still holding a charge. Since CCP already has plans to enable this sort of thing, it's nice to experience it first hand for feedback. So far, this trick has helped countless knife users land critical kills as it also enables them to be more aggressive rather than being forced to being semi-aggressive. |

Well now, something just came to mind. A passive speed increase could be a bad thing, as could an easily cancelled charge considering how nova knives could become something of a necessity on heavies. Pulling ye olde "Run faster with your knife out" would have a few drawbacks, but significant bonuses to anyone looking for more speed and not caring about their secondary slot.
Could be easily avoided though if they simply implement the charge with a drawback of a sort, such as a missed strike causing the wielder to "Stumble" or essentially have reduced movement/turning after the attack. If not already the case or planned, charging draining stamina would also be a good touch for balance. |

@Kriegs Son Jaeger
Actually, I think the "stumble" or "reduced movement after the attack" would just hinder it too much. It's an extremely challenging weapon to use to begin with. Let's not make it so challenging to the point that even people like me will just not use it. It's almost fine the way it is. It just needs the ability to sprint while holding the charge. |

Longer range for a Nova Knife user would simply mean longer arms.

If you punch someone at arms length, do you think it will have any real effect? Same applies to knives; they increase your range only marginally, and that is still essentially within arms reach. Get closer, and don't bring a knife to a gun fight. |
