The description of the Profile Analysis skill says each level produces "-5% dropsuit scan precision per level." I'm assuming this is an error because the dropsuit modules that you purchase state the module "Increases dropsuit's scan precision by 10%"
It wouldn't make sense that upgrading the skill drops precision but the module you purchase increases scan precision. |

Can't check in game but you want your scan resolution to be as low as possible. Lowering your scan resolution means your precision is increased i suppose... though it doesn't make sense if both descriptions use the term "scan precision". Bad wording I guess.
IIRC EVE had a lot of confusing module descriptions when a lower value was better, maybe they wanted to keep that tradition going or something ;).
...lets just hope they don't mess up the actual stats ;) |

I thought the scan profile reduction was a lowering of the frequency of the scan therefore enhabnsing the resolution of the scan. i could be way wrong but hey im a heavy wee dont need brains we just shoot stuff an blow sh** up |

Don't put a lot of effort into this analysis. The active Scan doesn't work correctly currently (I don't know why but Devs said don't use it awhile back and never rescinded it). Once they straighten the stuff out than we can focus more energy towards it.
Read the descriptions carefully as they seem backwards but actually aren't. Weird Icelandic language patterns is my best guess. |

Scan Precision is purpose is to make "it easier to detect nearby enemy signals."
The complete description for Profile Analysis says, "Basic understanding of scan profiles. Unlocks ability to use precision enhancer modules. -5% dropsuit scan precision per level."
Scan precision modules say, "increases dropsuit's scan precision by 10%." When I go to Attributes it gives it a negative percentage though.
The numbers, increases and decreases, don't seem to make sense. Also what exactly does precision do that the amplifier does not do? |

So profile scanning is basically useless right now? |

Not really, it does work passively. What doesn't work is the active scanner equipment. This is how you'd think of it: in eve ships have a signature radius. Think of that like describing the size of a ball sitting in a parking lot some distance away from you. Scan precision describes how small of a ball you can see from a distance. So profile dampeners make you smaller, and precision enhancers improve your vision.
If you train up profile dampening you do become much harder to detect on the radar. Precision is the counter to that. |

As a sneaky sniper I am training the following skills, I know what I'm doing with all but profile analysis, but having read this thread and others i now think I've got it. Id appreciate correcting where necessary.
profile dampening - makes your signature smaller so you are harder to see (in that the little red triangle and armor & shield bars don't so readily appear on screen)
long range scanning - exactly that, increases range of scanners
profile analysis - i now think this is that you can spot smaller targets within your scan range, in as much as a damped enemy would appear more readily than they otherwise would - i like the ball metaphor from further up "where once i could only see footballs i can now see tennis balls!!"
what i really want to know is how to best reduce CPU demand, Im currently pushing circuitry for its 5% output boost per level, and am thinking that pushing nanocircuitry and drop uplink skills reduce CPU demand for hives and links. But how can i effectively reduce the CPU demand of higher rated sniper rifles? i love the CZ7 (i think thats its name not in front of game right now) but it only appears as salvage, its got a good balance of CPU/damage. with my current dropsuit level the more powerful rifles are a distant dream at present.. |
