Must be on Microsoft's servers. Patches and updates would have to go through Microsoft QA department for which fees would be charged. Basically, Microsoft wanted Dust to be exclusive to them and have it to where they could bleed players and CCP for large amounts of cash because Microsoft is all about the money.
Second... Dust 514 is Dust 514 and not Halo and needs to stay that way. Yah well imho that's only true to a degree. It wouldn't hurt to borrow some elements from what makes Halo a good game without borrowing from Bungie/321's universe. For instance, here are some things that Halo does better than DUST:
- Detailed post-game stats: Headshots, what weapons you killed with, who killed you the most, who you killed the most, etc... Incredible detail is provided. In fact, you can go to Halo Waypoint online and look up these stats for every game you've ever played. You can see career stats too again in incredible detail. We're hooked up to "spreadsheets online" (EvE) and you're telling me DUST doesn't support this? Are you kidding CCP? Why not?
- Medals: Admit it - they're fun. Who doesn't smile when they get a "Death from the Grave" (kill someone after you die) or a "Killamanjaro" (7 kills w/i 30 sec of eachother)? It's just fun. DUST is a game. It shouldn't discount the "fun" factor.
- Graphics. Carbon looks awesome. Carbon is awesome. ...but we don't play Dust in Carbon. We sit in our merc quarters in carbon... but play in graphics from 8 years ago.
- Campaign. I know I know... but why not NPC missions? I like to play campaign first because I like to work out my playstyle, learn the game engine, and test out all the weapons without hosing my PvP stats. Now in DUST it's going to take me forever to recover from my 'experimental' phase (which is still ongoing).
- Picking up dead opponent's weapons. Why can't I? That deficit is one of the most ridiculous omissions in DUST.
DUST doesn't need to be Halo. Halo is very good at being Halo just as Black Ops II is very good at being Black Ops II. That said, it doesn't hurt to look at what other games are doing every now and again. (Mass Effect style menu in DUST, DUST style loadouts in Black Ops II and Halo 4, everyone borrows). DUST seems like it has a lot of potential, but don't get arrogant about it. Right now the interactivity w/ EvE is cumbersome and minimal. All DUST is right now is a low resolution shooter from 8 years ago with really big maps. (Edit - add persistence, subtract ability to pick up dead opponent's weapons...) |

I have played halo from the days of the very first xbox (you know that big black box with a giant x on the top?) nearly ten years ago and kept playing all of the various versions with the exception of halo wars. Currently I am playing halo 4 on the weekends with my friends.
But even after so many iterations and countless millions of dollars poured into hyping it, halo still has a handful of glitches and exploits that have yet to be addressed. If you played halo at all online or in a local LAN party, you would know what are the issues. Sure, DUST has issues but at least the issues are bring addressed in some way and we are not going to be charged for said iterations.
DUST must never be like halo. The only exception to that are ths stats. Yah that's true enough. Any time a version of Halo comes out someone finds a way to cheat (in 4 it's a new standby exploit and kicking players) and the studio never deals with them. at. all. I'm not saying be 3,2,1, studios or bungie... CCP should stay CCP... they just might look at some other games for some fun-factor and modernization features. |
