Yeah the quick select wheel for the squad leader still bugs me. It's not quick for a start, having to press R3 whilst holding down R2 is cumbersome and awkward, and then actually selecting the right command is sometimes a bit stiff too.
A simple way to make it a bit easier would be to move the directions of the 4 commands on the wheel. Right now they're all in 1 corner, between the (to use a clock example) 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions, when really you could move say, attack to the 12 position, defend to the 3, rally to the 6 and capture to the 9, and make the gaps between them all bigger so you don't need to be quite so precise when selecting them.
Alternatively, merge the attack and capture orders together, and instead make it a general "deal with this threat" order. If you're on coms with your squad (and really, why wouldn't you be?) then you can easily specify over voice which you actually want them to do, but it would save the hassle of having to select a specific order.
Additionally, the rally order could be moved entirely and made more useful (in my experiance, nobody uses this for anything, probably because it gives no wp and is like all the other commands, slow to place). Battlefield games had a great system for spotting enemies when you're in ADS, by pressing select to mark them for others, maybe rally could be done the same way, just ADS and press select, or R2 once and ping, rally wherever you were pointing at. For rallying somewhere out of sight then use the map.
So really, by merging 2 commands on the wheel and getting rid of one of them entirely to make it easier to activate, we'd really only have 2 commands we'd ever need to select from the wheel, defend and "deal with threat" (needs a better name, suggestions?) Hell, with only these 2 commands we could do away with a seperate command wheel entirely and just add them both to the weapons/equipment menu, just move them over to the other side where there's all that empty space.
Anyway, just a few suggestions.
EDIT; oh, and an improved lock on feature would be nice, right now you have to really precise, which isn't easy when you're trying to continue moving. |
