I am sure that this has been suggested already a few times, but i just wanted to give my own version of how it should be in DUST 514.
A module that can be installed on a specialized cloaking suit and that lets you cloak yourself from enemies.
The idea is simple, Eve Online has cloaking modules that let you cloak your ship. Some ships are so adept to cloaking that in the hands of someone capable they can be very deadly and spread mayhem and destruction in null-sec and low-sec. Why not introduce the same concept in DUST 514?
I understand that being able to make yourself invisible to the enemy gives you a very big advantage over your enemy, that is why there should be some restrictions in place to discourage everyone from running around in cloaking suits and ruining the game altogether.
- Very high skill level needed to even use the most basic cloaking suit. This goes without saying, in order to discourage entire teams of only using cloaking suits make the cloaking ability very difficult to obtain. I am not talking about days of accumulating sp, but rather weeks or even months.
- Very high cpu power needed to run a cloaking module. Just like in eve the highly specialized cloaking modules need a lot of cpu to run properly, thus making it impossible to install it on for example a heavy suit.
- In order to maintain cloak a player has to remain stationary. If someone runs around in a cloaking suit the cloak will be dropped. In order to get the ability to run around while cloaked a player has to train more skills which again will take weeks/months before they are able to run around cloaked.
- If someone fires a shot while cloaked the cloak will drop for a few seconds giving the opponent the ability to strike back.
- The enemy can be given certain devices that make it possible to seek out cloaked players. For example because of the high cpu power a cloaked player gives off a lot of heat. The enemy could for example get a module that makes it possible to change his view from normal to heat sources.
- What would also be cool is if the enemy had heat-seeking missiles. They could be automatically targeted to find cloaked players or they could have a on-board camera that tells you where they are and you guide the missile to its target.
So what do you guys think? Is this a good idea with enough counter-measures to level the playing field? Let me know what your opinion is about cloaked devices in DUST 514. |

Dunno when, but soon the Nova Knife will be among the myriad of OP posts when wielded by invisible ninja scouts. |

All I can say is that if this gets implemented, and I'm sure it will....there better be a module and skill also designed to see cloaked adversaries. Only fair to do this. Cloaking allows really cheesy tactics IMO and there better be a way to counter that. |

I disagree with making cloak require high skill levels. The other drawbacks and counters are enough. I also think that cloak should not make you completely invisible, just hard to see. If a player is paying attention, they can be able to spot cloaked enemies. The cloak could also drop when someone shots the cloaked player. |

I want the same cloaking system/design scheme used in EVE for DUST. Example: Only specialized dropsuits can equip cloaking devices that allow you to 'RUN'. Otherwise if you use a lesser quality cloak suit, you move at 50% speed. (or something lower). Firing a weapon will drop your cloak and will have it go on CD for like 30 seconds or something. I just dont want the typical OP cloak that you normally see in FPS to be in DUST. I like how they didn't make cloaking devices in EVE, OP. In fact, they are the most balanced cloak I've ever seen. Also, I think if you get in range of someone 5 to 10 meters, the cloak should drop, just like in EVE if you ge5 2.5kilos from someone or some entity, the cloak drops. |

In EVE the only way to find a cloaked ship is to smartbomb them when close by. Sooo, it really doesn't happen that often considering the 3D world the ships tend to move in.
I wouldn't mind not being able to see cloaked units in DUST, so long as equipping cloaking modules would (for instance) remove 90% of the shields or make it impossible for them to use their weapon while cloaked.
Hell, if we could get some sort of flame-thrower/radiation weapon that does blanket fire we could check corners for cloaked units. Also clear out those pesky hallways more quickly. |

I would limit the cloackies to sidearms (make the cloacking device take up the main weapons slot, problems solved). Nova knives should be banned for those suits, and melee damage reduced.
The main thing to do with a clocky should be sneaking up on snipers and shooting them in the back (you can do that nicely with a scrambler pistol) or hacking stuff behind enemy lines.
I dont want to see cloacked snipers or the ninjas with nova knifes who appear right behind you. If someone sneaks up on a heavy with a scrambler pistol, he should be dead. If he gets behind a sniper, the sniper should be dead. If it is a standard suit with a machine gun, the better one wins.
The value of a cloacky should be in breaking ambushes (if some snipers cover a narrow path, it can be hard to get through, even if you bring a lot of soldiers) or infiltration (hacking a CRU behind enemy lines, where reinforcements can be spawned).
I can even imagine cloackies to plant mines directly onto a tank (like it was done in WW2). You have to get very close, so the risk of beeing crushed is high. If you manage to stay out of harms way, you can plant your mine and win. |

that's an tf2 (team fortress 2) reference to the pyro and spy if i have ever seen one and this isn't tf2 its eve. |

Easy fix for cloaking, that would prevent abuse from snipers and would prevent cloaked assault armies
Make it take up a light weapon slot, thus you are limited to sidearms, that would ultimately make cloaking more tactical with obvious trade offs thus it would not simple be another must have tool for the assault army, it would have pros and cons in actual gameplay.
There are obviously other methods to work this but this one prevents abuse from those most capable of abusing it. I also think scouts should either get exclusive privileges similar to how heavies get suit only weapons or huge cpu discounts considering the limited scout roles (shotties and snipers at the moment) and also for the simple reason that scouts have the least amount of cpu, this is closer to what EVE does for its recon ships, 99% cpu reduction. |

If you manage to stay out of harms way, you can plant your mine and win. I definitely like the way you put it. Cloaking as an ambush breaker or infiltration, not assassination device is fantastic. Limiting the cloaks to sidearms makes sense. I especially like the idea of mixing cloaking with demolitions, this would also give more value to scanning equipment on vehicles. |

Cloaking mod would probably go in an equipment slot. I think you guys are seriously overestimating their power.

Your Ideas are dumb i'm sorry bro... if you let yourself get sneaked up on its your own fault not having situtional Awareness, myself i always look around for 360 security, so no one get the jump on me, cloaks should be like a Ghille Suit, undetectable when used by skilled operators, also there should be any heat source for a Cloak thats non-sense, before they even put something like that into production for combat operations, they would make sure there wasn't any heat source, it would use the same tech as a F-117 " NightHawk" they there engines are not detectable, as well as it's radar signal, while the F-117 can't go Cloaking like what we are Talking About, its still the same concept. ALSO is you mean Sneaking on a Heavy with a Scrambler pistol, that heavy should be dead, Decking a heavy in the brains with two shots screw any heavy up down to no armor almost, getting the Drop on someone is the Idea that they won't expect it giving you a clear Advantage, its How Bounding OVER WATCH... Real Combat is Fought ,its all out Flaking the enemy from a position that offers you cover, but leaves the enemy exposed... Hell.. i killed two Heavys with one Clip of Scrambler pistol
Now that Said I believe the Cloaks should require alot of Skill, the Skill itself should take Awhile to Acquire it... However it should lower you combat effectiveness, when engaged it should Lower Your Movement Speed to Half, and should only be able to be used when Crouched, and should be Activated upon crouching, it should require alot of PG, rather than CPU because it should be more a Drain on the PowerGrid, not the CPU USAGE, if they gave it High CPU usage you couldn't use a Sniper Rifle with it, which would be the number one usage for it, Nova Knifes should actually get a Bonuses when your cloaked and sneak on someone, Sneaking itself Takes Practice, patience, and Knowledge... if you get Dropped on its your own Fault " Keep Your EYEs PEELED" and it won't happen.
Also The Cloak should be Only Equipable to Scout Suits, mainly because " its Designed for Steath" any other suits no... because all the other Suits are Bulky, and just don't make any sense.
ANYWAY I'd Love to See Cloaks
