This applies to: assault rifle, shotgun, laser rifle, scrambler pistol, blaster turrets, the upcoming plasma launcher, and the upcoming scrambler rifle. This should also apply to any upcoming plasma or laser weapons.
I always liked the blueish muzzle flash and shots of the AR from the earlier trailers (example) more than the current yellow ones. While thinking about the color I remembered that color in real life is an indicator of energy output, that's why the hottest stars are blue, and the coolest ones are more red. This should apply to Dust weapons as well, especially since many of them use plasma, and stars are made of plasma.
The color of the rounds and the muzzle flash of a weapon should be based on the tier of the weapon. For example, a militia or standard AR should keep the yellow shots, an advanced AR should have a green shots, while a prototype AR should have sexy blue shots. Same coloring can be used for shotguns, and scrambler weapons; they are plasma induced electrolasers. Lasers can be green for standard, blue for advanced, and purple for prototype (the game needs more purple). Another idea for lasers is to have the color change while firing to represent damage buildup.
This is minor, but would be a cool detail. It would really be great for assessing how much of a threat your enemies are.
EDIT: Like Cross Atu points out, different colors could be because of different ammo types instead (or perhaps both maybe). |

I like this idea, I think it would be more engaging. However sky side in EVE it is ammo type, not meta level, which alters the color of the energy output from weapons, and since ammo has been confirmed as coming I'd propose using the ammo to define the color and using refined sound effects to denote the tier/meta of the weapons. Thanks for bringing this up

+1. I think this is a great idea.
Accent colors to the muzzle flashes, would really add a great deal of personalization for a player who wants to develop a trademark or a player who wants to invest in a color oriented image. I think ammo selection would make that a little more flexible too.

It would also make dust more festive allowing for player driven themed events (red ammo for Valentines day, Green for St. Patric's, Purple for Carnival, Gold for Samhain, ...or something I don't know, point is it'd be amusing and player driven ) |
