I'm completely new to this game and the EVE universe but I'm very excited to play DUST. There seems to be an epic scale to EVE and seeing as DUST is now tied in, are there any plans for actual travel in this game besides teleporting (or however is works) to the battlefield? Or will we be forever stuck in that tiny mercenary room? I get that this game is an FPS so maybe I'm just hoping for too much. Just wondering.

Suicide seems to be a way since your consciousness is instantly transferred to a new body when you die. I'm guessing that's how you get to the war barge before you deploy to battle. I'm just guessing.

I believe that War Barges will be pilot-able ships in EVE at some point, but it's likely that we will be beaming our consciousnesses around pre-set destinations for the most part. (Maybe we can go wherever in HighSec but have to get escorted through Null?)

It would be really cool if, while we're on a barge traveling through New Eden, we could see the capsuleers trying to blow us up out the big window.

Starting to get tired of tripping over dead clones when I get back and the closet is so full of bodies it wont open anymore

I hope we can eventually drop into battle from orbit like in the trailer. That would be the absolute sweetest way to travel planet to planet.

I foresee it being game-mechanics possible in this way:

A corp battle is under way, 8v8, and the only way to get more players into the match is via orbital drop from an EVE corpmate. The Dust guys will have to wait out the transit in their merc quarters or maybe in a seat, but once they drop is complete they appear high above the map and hot drop in. This would turn the tide for one side significantly and further boost the EVE-Dust cooperation.

I am pretty sure that suicide is not the way it actually works.

I think its much more like the clone jumping that currently is in place in Eve. But instead of a timer of 24 hours its instantly, as many times as you want each day.

They recycle the dead bodies into biomass and make more clones out of it.

In EVE you can transmit your consciousness to another clone in another part of the galaxy without committing suicide, but this requires special skills, and uses a special type of clone called a Jump Clone. In such cases your original clone is not killed, it simply becomes brain dead until you jump back to it. Presumably all stations have facilities for keeping these brain dead clones alive, while only certain stations have facilities for growing new clones. While you can leave your jump clone in any station, you can only place your skill clone at a station with a metical facility.

Suicide is a more widely available transport option though, as it does not require additional skills. Suicide would transport you to your Skill Clone, wherever it is. A method often employed by inexperienced explorers lost in warmholes. This method of transport has the disadvantage of destroying your original clone and any expensive implants you had plugged into your delicate head. I would guess that it is probably a more traumatic experience than jumpcloning as well.

I suspect that the method used to take you from your mercenary quarters to the battlefield would be at type of Jumpcloning. I also suspect that the clones used in battle are generic (cheap) universal clones rather then the custom grown clones used by EVE pilots. The clone in your mercenary quarters though is probably a high quality custom clone of your original body, or if you eat right and donGÇÖt abuse yourself it might actually be your original body.

To the OPGÇÖs question, I expect it will be several years before a DUST player will be able to fly to other planets in an EVE ship, simply due to the mechanics of it being a bit complicated. In the mean time all travel will likely involve transporting your consciousness to a clone at your destination. Just prey there is no server crash, lag, or solar flair interference during that transmission or you might find that GÇ£you are not all thereGÇ¥.

When in a lobby I once heard. "The trams are now out of order" or something along those lines.

Trams it is (I'm just kidding I dont know), I'd rather segways and hoverboards though.

Some day they will get those trams working so that DUST and EVE players will be able to go have a drink in a bar or something.
