There are two things that the ability to go prone might result in. So far, no game has avoided both of these. You have to choose which one you want to introduce to the game:
1. Exploits ("dolphin diving" comes to mind), or 2. Slowing the pace of the game.
With DUST 514 already being a fairly slow-paced shooter, slowing it down further would be a bad thing. And I can't think of anyone worth talking about who would be happy with the addition of game-breaking hitbox exploits, so neither possible approach to prone seems appropriate. Unless you have a coherent plan for how to implement a prone option into DUST, and it avoids both of these problems, I'm sticking with my usual "terrible idea" vote. Cloaking devices are likely to be coming soon, and that will benefit snipers more than a prone option would anyway. |

I'm a Shotgun Scout who's smart enough to deal with Snipers.
My girlfriend's a Sniper, and watching her play (quite well) has given me an appreciation for them.
Prone means laying down, it's not something that "helps" - they're the same thing.
Dophin Diving is an exploit when you have fast-paced gameplay with a prone option. Basically, you lay down while in mid-air, and it breaks the game's hitbox system, and can make you near-invulnerable because of your rapidly-changing body position, and also frequently makes players immune to headshots.
Snipers aren't overpowered, but the ability to go prone would make them more powerful. If you think they're already too powerful, why would you want them to be even better? |

There are two approaches that game developers have found to implementing a prone function. One results in Drop Shots being a viable tactic, and can result in dolphin diving depending on the specifics of how it's done. The other slows the game down.
So, as I said, you have those two options, or you can explain a new set of mechanics which allow us to avoid both of the problems which would negatively impact the game.
Until you define EXACTLY how your suggestion works, and can convince me that it WOULDN'T cause problems, I'm going to keep telling you that nobody has made it work properly yet. Every game with a prone function has to work around one of those two possibilities. Some slow-paced tactical shooters can safely allow players to go prone because they're built around the prone mechanic. DUST isn't, so without a MASSIVE redesign of almost everything about the gameplay, it's not going to work. |
