I'd recommend the Sniper Operations skill (duh), as well as Dropsuit Operationd to decrease your signature radius, and the skills necessary to equip signal dampeners. Both of these make it harder for enemies to locate you. Also high shield skills and low-end armor skills will take you far, because if spotted you want enough HP to survive a hasty counter-snipe. Also recommended are the ability to equip a mobile spawner so you can return to an out-of-the-reach place you chose to set up at if you get counter-sniped, and Nanocircuitry so you can equip Nanohives. Your gonna need the ammo, and some of them can even heal you if the damage leaks into armor.
This said, I hate snipers... so spare me if you see me, k? :3 |

ALSO, try out the Experimental Rifle. They are planning on changing sniping mechanics, so although the Experimental is just a standard that is harder to hit with, you may want to familiarize yourself with how they work.
And make two fittings, one with the Drop Uplink and an Assault or Sniper rifle to get you to your perch, and one with the Nanohives to use once you get there. No reason to waste Uplinks on the Sniping Suit. |

Hi Juggalo,
I'm not the best sniper around but I think I'm decent enough and I can tell what has improved my sniping game and made sniping more enjoyable for me. A lot of great points have been made in this thread so I'm gonna focus on the things that haven't been said yet.
First of all I personally prefer the tactical sniper because of the high rate of fire and low recoil. I like to have enough damage with it to kill most non heavy guys with two shots but some assaults seem pretty hard to kill as they have invested HEAVILY on shields. So at the moment I'm working on increasing my damage a bit. The tactical sniper also only has three shots in a clip which leads to a lot of reloading. Light weapon rapid reload wouldn't hurt but I haven't been able to invest much skills on it yet.
Second thing might be obvious but made sniping for me a LOT more enjoyable. Squads. A lot of people like to hate on us snipers, saying we don't do any good for the team which might be true for SOME snipers but if you use your strengths nothing could be further from the truth. I like to find a good spot from where I can see a large area and have my buddies (even just one friend is enough) stay on my line of sight on that area. This helps them cause I can see where the enemy is and it's very hard for them to get surprised but also it helps me as a sniper because it prevents to enemy on focusing on me with my assault rifle buddies spewing plasma on their face on the ground level. Just remember that as a sniper you should not only focusing on kills but also being aware of your surroundings and providing enemy positions for your team mates.
Thanks and have fun!:) |

I concur with a lot of what is said here, but I'll add in my two cents. (And I am by no means a great sniper.)
I personally started out this build with a charge sniper rifle, and have since moved over the the tactical. Some people find the Charge easier to shoot due to the hold and release firing mechanism, and it takes some adjusting. As was mentioned, if you are really good at placing shots, a charge may be best for you because it does the most damage in a single shot. The downside is that if that shot isn't perfect, your target is going to be able to escape your line of sight. (At least, most of the time.) Also, charge snipers are TERRIBLE for sniping in the field or in any situation that you may run into infantry that you need to put down before they can reach you.
On the other hand you have the tactical sniper rifles. Tacticals have only 3 shots in a single magazine, and a lower damage rating, but they have a much higher rate of fire, which lets you easily get 2 or even 3 shots downrange before the target can respond and find cover. I find Tacticals the absolute BEST for counter sniping,(since you have a better chance of hitting with more shots) or for taking down heavies. Also, Tactical snipers exist at multiple tiers, and get better scopes/zoom at higher levels, so as a whole, they are a better long term rifle, and with better zoom you can be a better asset to your squad.
My own sniper build is on a Dragonfly (same as a tier 1 gallente scout suit) scout since I have been using my SP on skills besides my dropsuit. Your priorities as a sniper are, as the others have said, the Profile Dampening and Dropsuit Command skills. Together, these will give you a 50% decrease in your scan profile. Improving your armor and shield maximums are also very useful, so I recommend putting SP into those skills as well. After that, it is partially up to you. I have put points into increase my scan range, which helps me pick up Redberries a bit better, but it isn't really vital.
I do usually equip a shield cycler (or w/e they are called) to improve the recharge time on my shields in case an enemy sniper gets a shot off at me. I also always sport two profile dampners as advanced as my skills allow. Besides that, work on improving your light weapon skill sets to improve your overall performance, choose what type of sidearm you want, and level your operation skills.
So, as a whole I recommend prioritizing skills this way for a sniper (these terms are very general):
Sniper rifle operation (for whatever rifle you want to use, then just hold off on it for a while.) Dropsuits and profile dampening (to improve your options and to some degree your survivability in battle.) Armor and shields (So you stay alive longer.) Circuitry type stuff, including light weapon upgrade to improve your cpu max and use. (So you can use more advanced equipment.) Light weapon skills (To improve your effectiveness) Sidearm specialization skills (So that when you are in a tight space, you can still kill that annoying assault who climbed up to your perch.)
I personally don't level nanocircuitry and just carry a militia nanohive. It fulfills my needs well enough, but that part really comes to personal preference and how you want to snipe.
Good luck, and welcome to the family of snipers! ~Ranthar |

Experiment. For me,
- Heavy suit - Normal sniper rifle
Works best. Charge sniper rifle is good generally, but has the lowest cap in what you can do later on when you get good at it. Heavy suit allows the best in combat sniping for me, as you can fire back when shot at whereas in many other suits you'll be dead by the time knockbacks and sway allow the shot. Heavy suit works best for field sniping if you have friends drop you a nanohive, because you survive most counter snipes and continue shooting from the other side of the rock. This allows more leeway in sticking your head out and actively looking for kills.
Last but not least, heavy with light weapon support is a very nice jack of all trades skillset. Shield heavies are generally the most fitting for my playstyle as a "Duracell bunny sniper" who keeps popping back up. |

... wow. Are you serious?

So let me get this straight. You sit behind the red line, in a fat suit, and occasionally stick your head out of the rocks to snipe a random guy running by?
Why are you so bad?
If you want to be a good sniper, don't poke your head out now and then to hit something. Get your fat ass on to the field and defend an objective or something. For sitting in the redline all match on an EU server, your KDR is trash, along with your W/L.
I wish you were on US servers so sleepy zan could show you how 2 play! |

They allow you to strafe in and out of cover while getting shots of which is very effective along with their fast shield regen. Also they have a bonus reduction to sniper sway I believe. |

All of the scanning skills/modules are a must, along with the ability to use nanohives. A good sniper doesn't need uplinks.
Last but not least, don't be a regular sniper unless you have a mic. You'll only be actually helping your team if you're communicating constantly to take out priority targets and give information on enemy movements/defenses.
More or less, instead of just shooting everything you see, remember to all out OVER TEAM CHAT something like "there's a shotgun scout, an HMG heavy, and a few starter fit assaults heading from C to B. A is unguarded, and I would suggest moving there from the south since there are no reds over there." And don't forget to snipe any uplinks you can.
Edit: I forgot- also be a scout type 1, to complement the scanning stats. That one also allows you to use a sidearm (you'll need one) and quickly move to a new position after your main sniper perch is compromised. |

no, no, no, no and no again. Those skills are useless. I spend most of my time shooting other snipers, and they've only shot me once. I don't have any points in scanning/stealth junk. Those skills are just there so people can role play that they are solid snake or something.
The only must is a sniper rifle and head shots. |
