Corp battles are just what DUST is about. They are contracts from EVE corporations, and they're all about completing the mission within budget. KDR doesn't matter, having top-end gear isn't always beneficial, and lone wolves are a liability. It sounds like you already have your head in the right place, and I'll echo Z3R0's suggestion to swing by the "Havok Core" channel and just ask to join one of our squads. You don't have to apply to the corp to play with us. Organic growth is working better for us than just trying ot be the biggest corp. We have enough people on to run corp battles, and still know each other well enough to recognize voices in comms, and know each other's proficiencies.
To elaborate on the current corp mechanics, right now each of the four NPC corps will post missions that a director may accept, to attack a district held by their enemy. The corp has to put up a 1mil ISK collateral. On mission completion (winning an 8 v 8 skirmish) they get a payout that looks to be 1.9 Mil ISK right now and their collateral returned. This goes directly to the corp wallet. Participants get 0 ISK, 0 SP as a direct result of the match. It is up to directors how to divvy up the spoils. I believe the current payouts are set intentionally low as this is still "beta". Once one corp has accepted an "Attack" contract, an opposing corp may accept the "Defend" contract under the same terms. As I suggested, completing under budget is key also. If your corp loses over 1.9 Mil combined assets in the victory, you still come out poorer. A team running vk.0's without matching player skill and teamwork is likely to quickly find themselves in the red.
The control of a district is important to EVE players as well. Those who are declared militia for one of the major factions enjoy certain perks that scale with their level of control over the districts in a region. Corp battles are special in that eve militia can provide orbital support if you can arrange for them to be at the right place at the right time. Works just like warbarge strikes but with greater effect and a choice of three types of weapon with some differences.
Corp battles are important because this system is the bread and butter of DUST and will be expanded beyond faction warfare / militia space and into space that individual eve corps hold sovereignty over. Space that they are willing to pay a lot to keep. Battles where a large collateral should be expected and a high confidence in your team will be required. |
